But This Is Easier

To approach this with "both eyes open" as it were, you probably should read some of the postings on the linked website before you make any life-changing decisions. There are some very unhappy people that went through hell getting away from this "religion" and it's probably a good idea to know all the facts.

Though it is one of the fastest growing sects worldwide, many in the "mainstream" religions consider the LDS sect little more than a cult.

On this site, many will tell you that the LDS organization (and the Catholic organization of the Knights of Columbus) recently flexed it's powerful muscle against other American citizens struggling to attain their rights in California's initiative on same-sex marriage and now the same battle is being waged in Maine with virtually the same players. I don't know that you're going to get much more here than courteous "good luck" wishes.

Best of luck on your journey.

I suppose

the perspective of a 25 year old and that of someone who has been shat upon by these horrible peoplefor over 50 years is going to, hmm, differ.

Frapdoodle, I lack Greg's ability to speak hard truths in kind words.

The Mormons are a hateful, spiteful group of people who concentrate their energies on stripping gays and transgender of the few civil rights we do have in the US. Their explicitly stated purpose is to torture us, using the instruments of electro-shock, lobotomy and other torture means until we are 'cured' of our natural sexuality.

These people are behind the current fights against our being granted human status in Maine and Washington, are mustering funds to aid the hateful jerks in Washington, D.C. to repeal gay marriage there (before it is even established) and have explicitly supported an Amendment to the US Constitution to have us declared, forever, sub-human.

Why, on earth, would you want to join up with such a sect?

If you haven't already, see a film called "Latter Days" before joining this cult.

I'd say be careful too with any new religion. You need to ask: "Is this the right path for me to be on?"

At a distance, I don't like a lot of what I see with the LDS. I get the impression that they try to control their members, which makes it a lousy match for someone like me who tends to question everything.

I also don't like how secretive they tend to be.

Several years back, I knew a young man who was a Mormon, and I got the distinct impression that the only reason he was was because of his family. He was preparing for the missionary years, and had no interest. But he told me it was expected.

judgement

Knowing What I learned from friends I have either met at a non-denominational church (of which I have visited many)and my own experience in getting my own personal prayers answered, the Mormans actualy believe that their founder climbed mountains here in the U.s finding written information from God,believing that men should have more than one wife and gay people as well as transgenders are wicked and need to be either rebuked or shamed to condemnation. Woe! The Bible I read in The New Testament says in clarity that there are no sinless folk here and ,instead of judging and damning each other,we need to love one another, forgive each other's transgressions and pray for those who need it. If you meet or see someone who is in need, help them out. Whether they need food, shelter, clothing or just prayer for their own inner peace and joy.Do you think the women and children involved in these compounds that seam to be cropping up mostly in the midwest look like they're at peace or full of joy??? Is that why they throw stones at anyone trying to get information at their compounds?? I see another Wako.If they are legit, why is one of the compound's leaders in jail for sexual asault with minors??????? TRUE CHRISTIAN FOLK DO NOT JUDGE!!!! They may pray for you non-stop. But they believe that it is not anybody's right to judge anyone. They could have been that person themselves and they all have their own "cross to bare". remember the amash school murders? remember the unconditional love and forgiveness they gave to the murderer's family?? That is true Christianity.O.k.,I'm getting down off my soap box.LOL

Sorry Donny and Marie!

Mormonism's founder Joseph Smith was a known con artist and that religion is a weird mess.Run to the hills from whence cometh your help.

Something I never quite understood about the Mormon religion was their full acceptance of the bible, yet the info contained in the book of Mormon totally contradicts the greater part of the bible. Now, let me makes this clear, I'm not one to put down someone’s religion and my misunderstanding is not meant to be sarcastic any anyway, shape or form. I just plain do not understand! If someone here will kindly explain to me, that would be very, very helpful.

I fully disagree about Mormons being hatred and spiteful. They're some of the nicest and most honest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I know a few people who have a burning hatred for their religion, but will be the first to admit that one couldn't have a better neighbor than a Mormon family. Ned Flanders on the Simpsons is a pretty accurate depiction.

Whether or not you agree with their religious beliefs, you can't help but to admire their time, effort, and dedication to their religion. I most certainly don't have the balls to go door to door only to have it slammed in my face……or worse!

Yes, well,

people who invest so much time, effort and money in keeping me permanently in a sub-human status, stripping my civil rights and seeking to tear children from their parents are not worthy of admiration, only of contempt.

This sect is dangerous. Right now, today, 3 November 2009, they have invested millions of dollars in having our rights taken from us in Washington State and Maine.

I appreciate the efforts of those who wish to be politically correct and tolerant, but towards these horrible people I only feel fury.

Honestly, give it 10 years...

My dear young Sir, you're only 16 if your profile is accurate. If you can wait, I would. Your perspectives will change greatly in the next 10 years (and beyond) and the religion you currently embrace may not be the religion you stay with for the rest of your life.

Before you make a decision, look at the Utah Lighthouse Ministries.

Either way GOOD LUCK!

Full disclosure, I'm 28. In high school I was a Catholic apologist who couldn't stand Lifeteen because it was far too Protestant. In college I was one of the students that the Jesuit admininstration didn't like because we were too conservative for their liking. (We'd have had a Tridentine Mass if we could have done it covertly.) Now, I still pray every day but I don't attend church that much.

I would also give it some time

I grew up Catholic. When I was 16, I was confirmed in the Catholic Church. Why? Beats me, it's what you're supposed to do. Wrong reason! If you're doing this because of the family, forget it, there are better reasons. I'd say also, wait some time. If you feel called to it, then do it. As I have a 19 year old daughter who changes her mind very often, and takes after her dad who does the same thing, I'd say wait till you're totally convinced before making a move. Try a more liberal group. Try Episcopal or something.

Bobby,

What part of: In Germany gays and transgender have 100% full civil rights and in America we have no protection against being fired, kicked out of our rented homes, can't marry, in many states can't adopt don't you understand?

Grow up and take a look at reality for gays and the transgendered, instead of pretending to be so sophisticated.

If you are gay or transgender, then you are a willing participant in your own subjugation. If you are straight, then you are either clueless or hateful.

Your Agenda

You are the one thats so hateful,we live in the finest country on this planet.Perhaps you should take away your agendas and look at yourself.Iam gay,yes there are folks who will always put others down because they are different.I try to take it all with a grain of salt. But the hatred you constantly spew is worse than any abuse I have ever received over my being gay.Plus it has caused many people to stop reading this wonderful site. Some of us recently discussed this while at a meet.I wondered why they were no longer writing and they gave the same reason, others are usuing for their platform of hatred, theres always some clown that ruins it for others. Thanks Bobby

Here comes the sermon: *LOL*

who on this website is a Latterday Saint/ Mormon?

Q:Have you ever been baptized.
A: YES

Q: I'm going to and I want to know what I need to do before im ready.
A: Be prepared to accept the love and abundance of "the universe" (a/k/a God/Allah/Buddah/Moses "The highest 7th level master" or whatever you want to call it). Be prepared to accept spirtuality and religiousness are not the same thing and that your opinions WILL differ from those of your church/temple/kingdom hall etc.

Q: I ccould ask the missionaries, but this is easier.
A: The missionaries may be quite well-trained to answer your questions. They may have their own interpretations of what their relgion means to them. Good research on your part will give you a better idea of both the good the bad and the ugly. Go in with your eyes (and your wallet) WIDE open. You will need to.

In my youth I was an altar-boy and a church reader. As a Greek-Orthodox Christian I learned modern Greek, then Biblical Greek and was able to read the New Testament in the original. I can tell you right here and now that oh so many things (including Scripture) can be translated and interpreted. MANY ways.

STHN APXH HTAN O LOGOS.
Commonly: "In the beginning there was the Word". But can also be: "In charge was the Authority". So you see when Bible thumpers got all hot and horny that only THEY know what is said and meant and only THEIR interpretation is right, you just HAVE to wonder.

I chose to be religious in those days. In retrospect I was looking for the love and acceptance and self-love/ self-esteem to escape my sexuality ("lifestyle"). It was a lovely love affair while it lasted, but ultimately, denial leads to mental and physical health issues.

Try some Eastern Orthodox Christianity. (Tends to be too ritualistic but somewhat spritual) Try some Roman Catholicism. (Too political and worldly for my taste). Try some protestantism. (Too watered-down and too altered for my taste). FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. If I had to pick a Christian denomination I rather like Anglciansim/Episcopalian (Cat-lick "Light" -- no Pope, no poop). It's close enough to my partner's Roman Catholicism and my G.O. Christianity.

I admire you so very much for seeking out spiritualty and a group to belong to. This is very important at your age-- a sense of belonging, I mean.

Please exuse my strong opinions. Just remember you are loved and esteemed for being you (With all your good and all your weaknesses), even if some people around you dont show it. G-d don't make junk. In my brand of Voo-doo (religion) incense bleong ONLY to G-d. Yet the priest censes (sp?) the people with incense. This is because there is G-d in ALL of us and collectivly we ARE G-d (like).

Here is another useless and unsolicited tid-bit. Take your thumb, pointer and middle finger (of the right hand) and have their tips touch. Fold back your ring finger and your pinkie. This is how we cross ourselves. Here is the sybolism: Father Sons and Holy Spirit (body, mind and soul) work together to make/have/BE life. The two fingers poiting back at you are the two natures of Jesus (divine and human). They are also the two natures of YOU!

LOVE YOURSELF FIRST; only then can you love G-d and others.

Just be very careful with the gang/herd/mob mentality found in organized religion. They are interested in memebers that reproduce to keep their numbers up. If you are not the marrying kind, they may have little use for you. I'm just saying.

My apologies again for my rather blunt and pointed opinions.

I wish you all the best and see that you are on the right track being cautiously optimistic.

Get on your knees.............

Did I mention that for about 20 minutes I thought I had "the calling" to be a priest?

It was a phase. I grew out of it. *LOL*

Again sorry for the sermon. Only the best intentions attached to it.

Remember, you won't get to have seven or eight young virgin wives until you are at least in your 50's. The Juicy young things are kept for the leaders. (partial joke, lighten up)

What hasn't been addressed here is the fact that the LDS church uses women as cattle, breeding stock. They are there to pleasure their man and breed. They also have to keep the house, take care of the children and sister wives if they are the junior wife, and be totally subserviant to anything the "master" says. A woman can not get into heaven without a husband.

Now that I have said so much negative, I will also add that many religions have their not so savory side. The LDS also are very self sufficient, family oriented, community driven and caring people. They do, however, intend to take over the world, and plan to do so in the market. Mariott Hotels, Beneficial Finance, and many, many more businesses are owned by the LDS church and it's holdings.

Bobby,

To seriously suggest that I should be the reason for not participating in this wonderful club is more than absurd - I posted exactly one comment (when Robert was under attack by that racist) the whole summer, but read the site every day. The exact same level of bitchiness, cliques forming and breaking over this that or the other (imagined) insult and queens freaking over some hideously inappropriate comment were just as much in evidence as when I do participate.

I never discuss politics or religion in the other fora here. If Robert wants me to not post, I won't. Otherwise, I strongly suggest you simply do what the rest of us adults do with those here whom we don't wish to associate with: Ignore the post. Ignore the thread. Ignore the comment.

All the best, Bobby,
Panthera
