One dead, A806 In Cleveland Ohio

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The whole machine was in really good shape Other than the screw coming out of the input shaft of the transmission.

The machine didn’t have much use in it’s life.

If anybody wants any of the remains, get in touch with me, I can put them in touch with where it’s at. It’s still sitting there waiting for the scrap guy. We just figured we’d save the top in case somebody wanted that.

The A806

Is one of my all time fave machines. So beautiful. Every option you could need. So smooth and quiet running compared to the others.

But the SQ FL ended it all for me, in terms of wanting vintage machines for everyday use and thinking they were the best. The SQ FL, with extra rinses, washes clothes SO much cleaner than any vintage full fill top loader. Presumably any other modern FL does too.

The proof is in white socks, white hand towels, white pillow case, and stained items.

Still, the Maytags of that era were so gorgeous, especially the 806. At one time I vowed that I would keep mine running and always use it forever. Never thought they’d come to be a relic of a bygone era or that Maytag would go out of business. Everything changes!

I’d be interested in the timer if you are able to save the top of it. I believe my Maytag A806 uses the same timer too. May also be interested in the dial face as well if it’s still in decent shape. Maybe I can arrange shipping this summer for those parts along with the timer for my ‘63 Whirlpool.

Oh, the humanity!!!

Humans mostly suck but a good 'ol Maytag washer is akin to a loyal dog.

The tub cover should also be saved as it has the cutout for the light lens cover. Finding that lens is near impossible. I do have at least 2 NOS covers if someone with a 3D printer wants to help us hagtags out.

Dead 806 washer

Hi Sean reply number six the machine is in the hands of my friend, Bob in Cleveland it was one of his customers machines, I just helped him part it out. It’s still laying there waiting for scrap pick up

Bob has the complete top wiring, harness and motor and bleach dispenser reservoir. If somebody wants all or part of it, I can put you in touch with him. I’m sure he will sell the parts. He didn’t really want them, but just thought they were too good to let them get scrapped, the whole machine fixed somebody wanted to grab the rest of it and do a major transmission repair.

Hi Sean, timer isn’t timer. Dials are not that hard to find for these machines but Bob may be willing to sell them.

I have not yet found the timer for your 63 whirlpool. I may not have one I went through the timers a month or so ago looking for one for Bob Orear, which I also did not find, I will keep a lookout for it but it’s going to be a hard time to find I’m afraid.

I might try to make another repair attempt to the timer on my Whirlpool, but I’m not so certain how it’ll work or will hold up for that matter. I’ll keep on being persistent about trying to find a timer. Hopefully one turns up in your parts stash or area.

If I can’t find a timer, may consider on selling them to another collector who will be savvy in trying to 3D print a new cam assembly or possibly trade for a mid to late 50’s Kenmore 2 speed pair.

May also considering on selling my Maytag A606 and DG407 this summer but will have to see.

..or I may try putting Mark 18 consoles on from a 1977 Whirlpool Mark 18 set scantpear may consider parting out if he can’t sell them. Hate to alter the originality, but if that’s the only way I can bring them back to life, then I may have to go that route.

Hi Sean, I thought it was just the delicate cycle that didn’t work properly. Why not just keep using the washer as it is, I can’t remember the last time I ever use the delicate cycle on my 71 lady Kenmore, for example.

You can just wash things for less time if you are washing sweaters or something, and let them soak a bit whirlpools not particularly hard on clothing.

I may just end up doing that that but here’s one thing I do at times especially with my Maytag A806. Sometimes, if I’m washing a small load of laundry that isn’t heavily soiled, will use the gentle cycle to not only reduce wear and tear on clothes, but the machine itself.

I suspect that’s what the original owner did which is why it’s still around after all these years.

I’ll make another repair attempt to see what will happen.
