Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

no smarter now than before!

I went to Lowes to pick up Laminate flooring and it turns out that the store manager was the person I spoke to yesterday about why the machine was thrown out. I asked him again tonite and he said nobody was able to give him an answer!

Well, with the fiasco of paying for the flooring and then getting out of there and back home and unloading the minivan of the materials, I didnt get a chance to hook it up but will endeavor to do so between coats of paint!
And Chuck, he did say that it was supposed to have been thrown in the dumpster! Guess timimg is everything!

It really is such a nice looking machine. I do hope it will be okay.
Is anyone aware of any recalls on them at all? Just to be in the know!
Thanks again!

Just for giggles, you should check the bottom of the dishwasher for a second tag. For example, the Amana mfg bottom freezer refrigerators have no less than three complete model/serial tags on each unit. One inside the refrig compartment, one on the back, one possibly on the bottom by the condenser and possibly one on the bottom of one of the doors, usually the freezer drawer. Just an Idea...

When Lowes shoots a Maytag unit here, usually they just send it back to Maytag under the umbrella heading of Non Funtioning or something like that. Sometimes those units end up in the 'scratch & dent' market when Maytag gets a big enough load together.

Discretion for sure!

In no way did I mention that I had gotten the machine! And believe me, I won't be asking any more questions!

Will endeavor to get it going sometime this weekend and post results if any!
Thanks again for the input.

Steve, I believe that underneath the machine there are electrical diagrams and also shows the cycles. The serial number/model number could be there also. A few weeks ago our Lowes had an Electrolux Dishwasher on the foor marked as clearance. I asked the salesman, and he said that they were changing all of the displays around.

I ran the machine last night after that internal filter assembly was replaced. There was not detergent left in the cup. But I will have to keep testing it further.

If you have any questions about the machine, let me know.

If you want the dishes to dry better, SET the AIR DRY OFF option when it comes up.

Looks like a Treasure!

Well, I finally hooked it up and ran it in the garage and I was pleasantly surprised!

IT WORKS!
It was weird having to select the cycle and hit start and then close the door but logical when you consider the controls would be under the countertop!

Forgive me, not used to these new fangled jobbers!

Anyway, it went right thru the quick cycle and definitely without question, one of the quietest machines I have not heard ever. And it is not installed in a cabinet yet! Just sitting there with the insualtion on it.

I have to question the water pressure as there isn't too much splashing when I open the door fast but it looks more than adequate.

I noticed that the clean light comes on while it is still drying, The fans are turning during the dry. I will have to try a full load of dishes and a normal cycle to see how well it dries.

I AM tempted to take it inside but the wife would prefer a white fronted unit. For the price as someone said, it is a great gift horse and for the price, color should not matter. Would Stainless look really bad in a white Kitchen with all the other appliances being white?
Thanks for the tips and info, guys. Will keep you posted.
Steve

sounds great!

congrats! you don't hate it! you might even love it! i would say take it in and hook it up under the counter and try it for a few weeks to see how you both like it. if it passes the test you could always paint the front white to match your other appliances.

i work at home depot and i am always on the lookout for dishwashers but alas, none ever come along! and if one would it would no doubt be down the compactor before i could get to it. there is a lowes nearby (there is always one next to a home depot it seems) and i'm gonna start drivin around the back of their store to peek and see what may be stashed out there. sounds like you got lucky with that one! enjoy playin with it!

Current Results!

Just unloaded the first real load in the new E-Lux!
Was pleasantly surprised by just how quiet this machine really is.Almost totally silent even in the garage! Ran the normal cycle with high temp boost and sani cycle. Took a bit over 1.5 hours to finish with the air blown dry!

A few things are weird though but probably because of what I am used to.

I wish it had the blue led that shines on the floor to tell you when the cycle actually is finsihed. The clean light shines on top even though the blowers are still running. I can't add the led since there is no hookup for it on the control box. But no big deal.

The bottom rack holds alot of dishes, at least as much as the KDS21 et.al. of that vintage, but the top rack leaves alot to be desired.
The rack does not allow cups and glasses to slant very much which leads to puddling on top of much ot the stuff up there.
The top rinsing arm does a good job of eliminating the "yibbles" though.

And it seemed that this machine would be a perfect candidate for those detergent balls and blocks as it left undisolved detergent in the dispenser. It was a brand new box of Electrasol/Finish but I do have to see how it does the next time since I opened the door and the cover flipped up on the dispenser. I have a feeling if it had stayed perpendicular to the dispenser, it might have channeled more water into it and gotten all the soap.

Everything came out well dried and spotless. Our water is 7-8 grains hard but all treated thru RO at the water treatment plant so it isn't all that loaded with many other minerals.

All in all, it isn't too bad, though I do miss the water sounds from a real pumping machine like my 21. Even the Kenmore sitting next to the E-Lux sounds like a hurricane in a box compared to it!

More results as they come in!

Oh and my wife even said she would take the E-lux if I can find a buyer for the KDS21-M.

Any takers?
( Don't worry.. I still have a few KA spares in the garage too.) Can never turn my back on them!

Take a ride down!

Got a minivan or a car with a large trunk opening? It will fit!
Besides, it is a nice drive down!
Had a guy with a current production Impala take a Whirlpool Gold D/W home in the trunk opening of the Chevy! But he only lived 40 miles away!

You could always get it shipped!

How much would it cost to ship to zip code 15312? That is the main problem, I am getting a Frigidaire Flair that I had to have this week so I dont have much to spare now.

As for hauling it home,If I was able to have the time off to get it I would and since I drive both a Lincoln Town Car and a Cadillac DeVille, there would be no problem, I brought home a new organ in my Lincoln

To interject:

My dad took a Whirlpool dishwasher home tied to the trunk of a Cavalier... I recently brought home a king size bed frame in a Ford Focus...

U Crate It

i used U Crate It to ship from boston to cinti. and it cost me 247 bucks! not bad, competitors wanted 500 or more, one wanted over 900!

i will say i have carried a dozen or so built in models, mostly kitchenaids in the trunk of my old beat up pontiac grand am!

and a road trip out of town to pick up a much coveted dishwasher is a great adventure! at least for this dishwasher addict!

steve, glad you like it but i agree, nothing sounds the same as a 1/2 hp. kitchenaid pumping all that water thru it's hydrosweep! it's a symphony! ofcourse i am prob nuts but hey, it's still a symphony! and one and a half hours, oh my, no no no no no!!! all the kds-17's are laughing at that one!!!! they just don't make em like they used to!!!

Part check in the Kitchen aisle!

Ray
You mentioned that you had the removable filter strainer replaced in the E-lux. Can you do me a favor and see what the part number stamped on the bottom of it is? I think I may have a problem with not enough water getting thru as the machine still leaves undissolved soap in the dispenser and a blob of it on the tank bottom. Granted, that was with the quick cycle so maybe with the normal or other cycles, there are more fills and would clear up the soap issue. The part number on mine is 1545143 and is grey plastic.

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve, Let me see if it is on the paperwork, if not I will call Electrolux to see what part was ordered. Give me a couple of days. I will send you an email. Mine was replaced and so far it seems like it worked. I will do more loads on different cycles and let you know. I also have used the new Cascade Gel Advanced Power which I got at Cosco. Fantastic is all I could say. Consumer reports rated the Cacade Complete Gel Number 1. I ususally like powders better, but you might want to thry this gel. I think it is a combination of the Pure Rinse, Complete, Bleach, etc. formulas.

Question....... WHen you want the dishes to dry with the blower, do you SET the AIR DRY OFF option? This is what Electrolux told me to do if you want the blower on. I know it is a little confusing. E-Lux customer service gets a lot of calls on this.

If you select the Hi Temp Wash and the Sanitize, the plastics come out almost dry. I also like all the baskets for utensils etc. that they provide. I am glad that you are happy with the machine so far. I will email you privately.

Ray

Steve....Another question. WHen it is in the drying mode, do you see any steam/condensation coming out? Any where do these vapors go? Mine is installed so I do not see.

Thanks

Ray

Would Stainless look really bad in a white Kitchen

Steve, My mom did her kitchen over 10 years ago. She has a Stainless cooktop, oven and sink. THe dishwasher had the wood panel installed to match the cabinets, and the refrigerator was Almond. It did not look bad at all. She got some canisters that were Almond and Stainless. She just replaced the refigerator with a GE stainless steel bottom mount.

I think Williams Sonoma has some white and stainless accessories, such as a utensil and canister set.

You may want to check with Electrolux to see if the door panel can be replaced easily. I am not sure if it is just a piece of metal over the door or not.

Part check in the Kitchen aisle!

Hi Steve. I got the part number for you.
It is: 7154600702 - Filter Assembly. It is sort of a baset located under the large stainless filter and the removable large particle, bone and glass filter. I was not there when he installed it, but he showed me the area when he ordered it. You may have to order from Electrolux. Electrolux in my area uses Metro Service. www.metrofs.com.

He told E-Lux of the problem with the detergent cup, and they must have had complaints, and told him this was the fix. So far so good. Will keep you posted.

PS: Also sent you this information to your email address.

Let me know how you make out.

Ray

The front panel is easy to remove. I would tape over the name plate and use a good spray enamal paint to refinish it in white. You may also consider ordering a new front panel in white. They run about $45.since the unit works and is a current model, that part may be ferr from E'Lux.GET THE MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBERS!!!

Detergent Cup

Stevet. Ran two more loads with the powdered detergent. So far so good. Now that was with the plates in the front one day, and the next day a corning ware piece in the front. Will have to try with a large pot. Will let you know.
