Just a quickie!

Did a "quick cycle" this afternoon with dishes and other assorted stuff and on that cycle there is no additional heat and I think less final rinses and it took 75 minutes start to actual finish.

While the dishes were clean, I would say the results are less than satisfactory with alot more water left on everything. Lower temps and shorter dry would account for that.
I guess it would not be bad if the machine is run prior to bedtime or on the way out to work,neither of which we would ever do anyway!

So just thought I would report what was going on in the test lab!

RayJay, is this a normal amount of time?

Hi Steve. I do not recall the normal cycle taking that long. But.....I will time one night when I am home this week and let you know. I think you may not have the water temp on your water heater set as high as I do. Also....if it is still in the garage, how long of a run is it from the hot water source to the dishwasher. It may run shorter if installed in the kitchen and you turn on the hot water at the faucet first. I will time a normal cycle possible tonight.

Ran a lot of loads on Saturday and one on Sunday when we left for my cousins house for dinner. I was busy cooking on Saturday and did not pay attention to it.

Not so far away!

Thanks for the input,Ray. The dishwasher is connected to the slop sink by no more than an 8 foot washing machine hose setup. The faucet is the first one after the hot water heater which is next to that sink! I can run the water first but don't usually do that but will do it the next time I do a wash in it which should be tomorrow nite. That way I can see if there is any difference.

Will give it a try next load. If the machine was in the kitchen, I have the Watts Hot water recirculator going when the d/w runs so it gets hot water instantly(well almost).
That too will help.

Broken Record?

Okay, did a load in the Elux last nite, Normal cycle, Hot water run prior to filling machine, slightly soiled dishware, no additional heat selected and the air dry option off or at least the light was off. Whatever than means, right RayJay?
Started at 7:55 finished at 9:35. Drying fans ran for almost 40 minutes of that time.All lites out except clean at 9:35.

Again, nearly 2 hours! Is this the way of the world with supposed energy star appliances?

Of course, everything was cleaned and spotless!
And no soap powder anywhere!

Steve, an hour & 40 minutes isn't too bad. My Kenmore Elite, although is mostly pretty heavy soil, takes on averrage anywhere from 2 hours and 6 mminutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes. With little or no soil at best 1.5 hours to 1 hour 40 minutes. Remember, low wattage heating element and drawing motor. supposedly the secret to energy star. europeans have put up with this a lot longer than us and they got used to it--they had to get more energy efficient long before us. The same way with front loaders over there. My old PotScrubber 1200 on light was 85 minutes. PotScrubber in the winter, 1 hour and 46 minutes. So the 2 hours and 6 minutes isn't that much more for me to have had to adjust to.

Yes and no. The fastest high-efficiency cycle on a Euro dishwasher still takes a 125 minutes (Bosch/Siemens. However, the big ones, that is Miele and B/S/H, have come out with Turbo and varioSpeed options to cut the cycle time down. Just the other day, I washed a load containing encrusted Pyrex dishes and pots and plates and everything in our Bosch. Chose ECO 50°C with varioSpeed. 81 minutes later everything was clean and dry ...and super hot. Of course, high-speed options increase water and power consumption...

Steve, I do not think my drying fans run this long. With my machine already built in, how can you tell that they are running? When I open the door after the cycle, I do have a film of condensation on the door. Is this normal for you too. ALso...there are water droplets on the silverware baskets. This whole drying process with the AIR DRY OFF, or AIR DRY On is confusing. Maybe my drying cycle is not running properly?

Seek and you shall Hear!

Ray, I know the fans are nearly silent when running and it is easier to hear them in my garage, but if you put your ear to the left side of the kick panel, you may be able to hear the lower fan running as it exhausts right there. The top one blows in and the bottom one sucks air out and the intake for that fan is part of the water fill air gap on the left side of the machine.
I do get the film of condensation too and have also noticed a film of something on the silverware! I refilled the jet dry dispenser so will hjave to see what happens.

And yes, lots and lots of drops of water on the silverware racks.

I would have to say that so far the best non heated dry I have seen is the Bosch machine I have..the Model SMU4052US/09
I know it heats up to 160 or more in the final rinse so the stuff inside gets really hot and then dries nicely. A much better drying machine than the Electrolux.
Now if we can only figure out what the story is with that Air Dry button we will have it made.

So far....On track with you.

Steve. My silverware comes out really sparkling in this dishwasher, better than my Kitencaid. Now on the drying.....I still have to think that the E_Lux would do better drying in that it has the fans. Now I called E_Lux customer service a few times, and they told me if I wanted the dishes to dry, I would have to select the AIR DRY OFF option when in display in the panel, then just keep hitting the right arrow till you get to the volume setting, then hit start. Of course you have the IQ model. I did select the AIR DRY ON option, and there was more water on the load, but it all dries up in about 10 min.

Now a friend of ours has a Bosch, and she states that the dishes are wet. So, go figuer. lol

On our machines, selecting the HI Temp Wash and Sanitize ON, they load really comes out dry. Now you did say in a couple of posts earlier that the load did come out dry?

Thanks for the info Ray. What did you have the dry option set at? Maybe I can duplicate your settings on mine.
Maybe we should both start them empty at the same time and see what they do!

Hi Steve. That sounds like a good idea. Let me know what night. Now on my Wave touch panel, when I set the options, when the AIR DRY OFF options appears, I hit the set button, the continue with the right arrow till it displays VOL Settings, then I hit the start button.

Now I did run the AUTO WASH the other night and it took about 2 1/2 hrs. There were a lot of dirty dishes, (egg on them, etc, and pots). But at looking at consumer reports this is the norm for all the new dishwashers. Give me a call anytime.
