One of our own, Mike Klyde from Long Beach had his wonderful and "chic" 1967 Ford Country Squire become the cover story for Hemmings Classic Cars February 2008 issue. This car was a labor of love for Mike and he restored it wonderfully. I had the great pleasure to ride coast to coast in this car a few years back, with Mike doing all the driving and me keeping an eye out for clean restrooms and Aunt Sally's Pecan Pralines.......It certainly was a trip to remember, with our destination San Luis Obispo! Congratulations to Mike and your very chic station wagon.....

Loved The Article!

I subscribe to "Hemmings Classic Car," and I LOVED the Country Squire article. A friend of my mother's had a nice white '67 Galaxie 500 coupe; always loved the interior. But the CS is the best of the bunch--and that wonderful fake wood (although I must say I like the '68 with the hidden headlights too).
Best wishes from one Mike to another, and great job on the Ford!

Beautiful car

I have that magazine here as well, awesome job on the restoration, the attention to detail really shows, and I knkow how hard it had to be to put that back to original shape. Many of us grew up riding in station wagons, it brings back a lot of great memories. There are a couple 66 fastbacks in the area, but most of the big Fords around here from the mid to late sixties died from frame rust.
Do you have pictures of your other older cars?

Congratulations, looks great. I remember when I was 9 going with my dad and uncle car shopping (always Fords) and looking at them and wanting one so bad, the neighbors had an earlier model and I loved the power tailgate window on it. But he bought the Custom 500. Why he didn't get the wagon I can't remember because our family was big into camping trips and he was always building something where a wagon would have been a perfect fit. I don't go to many car shows, only if I happen to be driving by a show & shine etc I'll stop in for a look but I'm always much more interested in the restored regular family cars and wagons of the era's than the hotrod and muscle cars

Mike how fabulous is that! So glad you and one of your awesome cars got to appear in this magazine! Jimmy, that sounds like one fun trip!

OH MY GOD--it's Getawaymike

The cool aworg dude in California with the also mint GE &KM sets.

A huge congratulations. You're even more famous now, Mikey!!!!!!

Thank you

Jimmy,

Thank you for the surprise! I arrived home after working a split shift at the college (two 12 unit classes) and saw this. Also thanks to everyone for the kind words. I do have some other cars, two of which were on the cover of Hemming's Classic Car, January 07. I will post some pix up this weekend, as they are on the disc drive of my old PC, now in the garage.

Again what a nice surprise and a great way to close a very long work day.

Mike

That was a great article!!! I love Hemmings Classic Car! That Country Squire made me druel. You are such a lucky man! Congratulations!

Any idea how I'd get in touch with them for the "Next Generation" column? Am I too old at 25? I've got a '79 Caprice, which I guess is old enough, since the last issue had an '80 Cutlass.
