Hello, Automatic Washer forums! I hope I am posting in the right place as this is my first ever time on here. I have a few questions for any Direct-Drive transmission style Kenmore/Whirlpool washing machine enthusiasts that may be here, but first, some much needed context...

I, myself, own a 1980's Kenmore 70 Series washing machine with a Direct-Drive transmission, (Unknown model number) and a family member owns a 2003 - 2005-ish Whirlpool model "LXR7244PQ0" Direct-Drive washing machine, and they both have a similar, but still different problems in which I will list below.

The 70 Series washer will sometimes Neutral Drain properly and sometimes it won't on the Normal/Heavy Duty cycles, and never would Neutral Drain on the Knit/Delicate cycles, and sometimes when it does Neutral Drain properly, it will slip into spin halfway through a normal Neutral Drain and start spinning.

The LXR7244PQ0 Whirlpool Unit will Neutral Drain on the normal cycles, but won't on the Knit/Delicate cycle.

With all the above information and context, my question is, will a new Neutral Drain kit fix these issues and just simply that, or is this something that may need more than just a new Neutral Drain kit? I plan to rebuild the transmissions in these two machines to extend their lifetime as I am really great with this kind of stuff, but just wondered if a new Neutral Drain kit will fix these issues mentioned so I know for sure if that will indeed fix the problems before I do it. Thanks to whoever can help in advance! :)

Yeah, a neutral drain kit should fix that.

Be sure to completely disassemble, clean, install the kit, and pour new oil in the trans. Too many just change the neutral drain kit, reuse the dirty oil, and slap it together. That is not the recipe for a long lasting fix.
