Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Ummmm...

Ya, what are YOU doing here?

I thought I'd give this stuff a try only because of the outrageous claim on the bottle. It was $6.29 for a 50 ounce bottle. The claim, it can wash 50 LARGE loads in an HE washer. (25 loads in a standard washer.) That's one ounce per load! That's in the ball park of Sears Ultra Plus price wise if I'm not mistaken! It does smell nice, a touch light for my taste, but I thought if it can do that many loads, be good for the environment, and do a halfway decent job, it might be good for my mom to use. The interesting thing is the cap...

The cap, this must be how they can afford such a price on this stuff. What consumer is actually going to read the label and measure accordingly in the giant-ass cap they provide? Line 1 is the 1 ounce line. The cap itself holds about 6 ounces when full.

Question.

I see you have Kirkland powder in the orange box. What is your opinion of it?

That cap is one of the many many MANY reasons why I don't like liquid detergent, especially the concentrated versions.

I use it and like it. I use "Free and Clear" so I don't smell like perfume or a bounce sheet. I do add a tide stain release to my whites and found it makes a difference.

The Bosch washer appears to contain the collectible additives whereas the other piles are for everyday use?

(I cheated and read the pink sign on the wall!)

...or did we answer this on already. Be kind Junior, you will be my age one day! LOL

Dave, I got the Kirkland stuff from my step mom, she used 7/8 of it before deciding she didn't like it. (She washes everything in cold, go figure, it never dissolved completely.) I haven't used it much, I need to get to Costco to get a box!

Jim, there was a jug of the Free and Clear stuff at the store for $21. Guess how many loads it could supposedly do? 210!!!

Steve, ahhhh, yes, that pink sign. That's there because my mom's husband and his son discovered that they like liquid Persil. I'm not paying for them to enjoy my Persil, if they like it, they can buy their own bottles. At $26.50 a bottle and only 20 loads per bottle, they damn well better not be using my stuff!!!!

Kirkland Fabric Softner

Jamie, Have you also tried the Kirkland fabric softner? Nice light touch of Lavender, and not waxy or heavy. Keeps the towels absorbent too.

I tried it and like it.

Kirkland Liquid FS.

I really liked it before it was reformulated to become more concentrated. To me, it represented all the good things Downey was not (it wasn't a sticky slimy mess). It had a nice smell, worked well, and was much more forgiving of inaccurate dosing. The new stuff, while still a good performer, has all the nasty traits of over-concentrated slime.

I've been using a very very light dose of Suavitel lately and it's working out pretty well.

Thanks for looking into the Kirkland detergent for me. I've heard not so great things about their cheaper powder detergent (in the white square plastic pail with the blue lid) but nothing of the one in the paperboard box. Who makes it?

Cheers,
Dave
