Hooverzodiac that thing is an amanatag, there was one in this house when we moved here. I doubt its a transmission problem, more likey the timer. As it gets worse it will skip the drain prior to rinse, pause through the rinse fill (because the wash water is still in there), do the rinse agitate and spin. Completely skipping the rinse. Run from that thing, i agree though the styling was nice. alr2903
She's a Herrin built NorTag all the way. If it was Amana inspired, it'd be a SAV, not a MAV. It's not really a bad washer for what it is. The Herrin washers offered nice features and huge capacity for a lower price with the trade off being more plastic. Being an electronic control, I'd be more worried about the module causing it...
What are the differences between an SAV and MAV washer? Did Amanatags look like the old Speed Queen? If an SAV and an MAV are similar why would one fail more often that another? In our family, 4 households have MAV washing machines. Mom's Performa was first, then my Atlantis, an aunt's Ensignia and my sister's Legacy that resembles the one in the picture. All of us are very pleased with the machines. They clean well, have large tubs and all of them are quiet. I loaned mom an extra machine because her Performa began going out of balance on a regular basis. That said, my mother has developed a laundry fixation in her Alzheimer induced state and runs her machine from orning to night with just a few items.
