Hey fellas (and ladies)! Thanks to John (combo52), Dave (Volvoguy87), and Wes (elginkid), I now have an awesome matching vintage washer/dryer! It's been a crazy week, but I now have an a702 and a de702. I'm so excited!

a702

I also forgot to thank Tom before (not sure his sn, but without him it couldn't have happened). I really am thankful for Tom and John for the washer. Both machines need some minor reconditioning, but are in pretty good shape! The washer was made in September 1964, has a minor transmission leak, and is missing the lint filter... otherwise it is amazing.

de702

Volvoguy87 (Dave) has agreed to give each of the machines a minor reconditioning for me. This de702 was found on the Cleveland Craigslist for $30. The seller said the timer didn't work. We haven't had a chance to check it out. It just worked out I was coming out to Ohio anyway with the washer, so I now have the set! So happy! Forgive the water pictures, it decided to rain in Dave's garage... :/

Now all I need to do is find my 1965 or earlier GE Mobile Maid or Kitchen Aid portable dishwasher and I'll have all vintage appliances. Sweet!

Note: The seller included some paperwork he picked up when he tried to work on the machine. Hopefully he didn't screw it up!

Helpers

from AW.org--------Dave Volvoguy helped me out with a Norge and a fun day in cinci, John Combo gave me lots of phone advice on an ancient Whirlpool, you are in with a good group of folks--and congratulations on those machines, matching and workin and all--

Numerous other here have helped me too---I am just mentioning the guys you are working with on this set, no offense to other past helpers

A few things:

The DE702 has a timer like Wes's 641c. I thought the DE702 was an electronic control dryer like the DE806. Was there an electronic control dryer to match the A702 washer?

As for the garage... I recently bought a large historic 4-family house with a detached 3-car garage. The garage was on the verge of falling down. I've straightened the walls, but there are still huge holes in the roof. I'm having the garage roof covered with a tarp for now, and I'll finish roof repairs in a few months once I've benn able to move in. Please don't judge my damp garage yet!

You are very welcome, Will. The washer needs, AT LEAST, a new "o" ring in the tranny. It has dripped oil onto strategicly placed pads for several years in my shop so a tranny teardown is indicated. The control panel looks like the people who got rid of it had gone in there so I don't know what you are going to find behind the glass. Thanks for taking it.

:)

Also, They dryer was made in July 1964.

They should be great! Dave, feel free to order any extra parts that I may need in the future that are in danger of being NLA (or if you find any NLA that I should hold on to).

Very nice Will, CONGRATS on your beautiful "new" Maytag set!!!

Are you sure the dryer is a DE702? That model number doesn't sound right for a dryer.

Interesting, I didn't know they did a 702 dryer as well. THANKS!

And thanks for posting the page from the brochure.

I have a 1960 641C and a 1962 DE701 (plus a couple DE750's). Interesting the DE702 is exactly(?) the same as the 641C (time dry only and 3 temp/cycle buttons). The DE701 has both time dry and auto dry.

You may already know, but the end-of-cycle chime will sound ONLY when the wash-n-wear button / cycle is selected.

642C/742C/D-701(W) = Maytags first generation electronic moisture control models. All models share the same 301462 timer and 301465 electronic control unit.

641C/741C/D-700/D-702 = Timed dry only.

Lovely Set!

Congrats on that lovely Maytag set and I hope you get plenty of use out of them. Crossing my own fingers that I can find a minty vintage set for my kitchen! :)
