On Friday, The New Life Church in Colorado Springs, former pulpit of scandal-ridden Ted Haggard, announced the details of a previously undisclosed sexual relationship Haggard had with a young male church volunteer. The announcement comes just as Haggard, 52, has begun attempting to rebuild his reputation. He is in the middle of a media tour promoting an HBO documentary airing next Thursday about his time out of the spotlight. He recently taped an interview with Oprah Winfrey and has an upcoming slot on CNN's Larry King Live.

Brady Boyd, the current senior pastor said that the church had wanted to keep the relationship (which apparently went on for a “long period of time” and began when the young man was of legal age) a private matter, but was prompted to disclose the details when he was contacted by a Colorado Springs TV station and informed that the young man planned to release full details of the relationship to the press.

The church reached a legal settlement with the young man agreeing to pay for education and counseling on the condition that the relationship was never publicly discussed. He added that the church won’t take any legal action against the man even if he violates the terms of the settlement and talks about the relationship to the media. The publicity surrounding the upcoming documentary, reported to somewhat portray Haggard as a victim, may have motivated the young man to come forward.

Why can’t these religious leaders keep it in their pants?

oh Jeebus, please save me from your followers.

Because as spritual as they tend to want others to believe they are, they covet earthly pleasures like:

Sex, money, power, leadership, recognition.............

I'm heterosexual with issues.

Haggard was interevied on a show that aired for me last night, in which he said the above when asked about his sexuality.

I was thinking gee... which issues of Playgirl, Drummer, Inches, Torso and Blue-boy would those be?

Gotta love wifey behind him. Actually, I'm guessing he'd prefer something "beefier" back there.

Yes, however

this kid/young man stated in the interview that he had been "fighting homosexuality". Fighting hell, he claims to be a victim himself. Why do guys like this -Haggard among them- claim they are confused. They don't seem to be confused when they are swinging off each others d**k! Haggard is the extreme hypocrite and this kid is just another attention whore. The media shouldn't give air time to either of them. The both just need to jump in the sack with another guy and shut up.

Rant over.

Haggard is a pathological liar with issues. He lies with a big smile and lots of charisma.

The younger man "Haas" came across to me as deeply troubled that his time with Haggard came to an end. You know theres nothing like a "comeback" story". If he left Colorado, continued to partner with his wife to raise the kids. Divorce the wife. Start a church and set the precedent of DECLINING the "Tax-Exempt" status Religion enjoys, as much as they enjoy mixing Church and State. He might come out a Superstar. I do think he is truthful re: his faith. I was eager to see the interview, and came away thinking he's mixed up, but if he came clean, he has the publicity to really do something thats matters... Many a "straight" guy has been trapped in a closet by the good ole boys club. It would be hard to walk away from the lifestyle he enjoyed, while living a lie.

Bash the Bishop.

I heard the youngin' (Mr. Haas) describe the 24/7 [program) where those young men 18 y.o. and abve lived in a church dorm facility 24/7 as part to an intense program of almost miliary discipline.

Mr. Haggard was such a good mentor and instructor (tongue-in- cheek folks!)that he worked-out with the boys, showered with them and went on field trips with them. How considerate!

Further, according to Mr Haas, there was a great deal of show-and-tell going in in those hotel rooms and auto-erotic activities (voyeuristic and exhibitionistic).

All I can say is: not good if unwanted activity.

But when I misbehaved and my parents threatened to send me to military school I BEGGED to be in an all-male environment with open / common showers. Oh honey, momma didn't raise no fool!

toggles

Mon Dad pulled that send me to military school too. I was packed and ready to go in less than a hour.. It was never mentioned again...

Bash the Bishop, What a nice game show that would make.

OMG, it's shown up on the internet again. That is the parish I grew up in from the age of 7 until moving across town in 1980. One of my coworkers had this in an email of funny church comments about 3 yeaers ago. I thought it was funny, then I saw the parish and just about died on the spot.
