I was so excited when I found this yesterday. Haven't seen one of these Hoover can-opener/knife sharpeners since forever. It's quite large and quite heavy and the motor sounds like a blender on high speed. Note the handy little legs on the bottom that fold out to raise the unit for opening tall cans. These old machines are so nice compared to today's trash.
This one is made in the USA for Hoover Cda.

I hit 3 stores at least every other day. They're all within a couple of blocks of each other. VV has a huge turnover of items, you could drop in every hour or two and they'd be bringing out more. There's lots of crud in the mix though and the good stuff goes almost instantly. Luckily there aren't many like me picking out the vintage small appliances. I'm always looking for extra bird cages as well and it's a goldmine for those.

OMG Pete, that's my parents old opener!

That is the one we had when I was a little kid! Until about 1969 or 1970. I wonder if they OEMd this though, because I do not remember a Hoover badge on it. But that is the one. My dad would use the knife sharpener and it worked. I have never seen another one, but I remember it was very heavy.

Does the entire handle mechanism come off for cleaning? I know the can lid holder does.

I have not thought about that thing in years and years.
