This is a motor/tranny view of a common VMW washer, model mvwc565fw0. You can see that there has been oil leakage. A buddy is convinced that the oil comes from motor, and says that the tranny doesn't have oil in it. I have always thought that the tranny is the source of the oil. What is your opinion?

Vertical modular washer leaking oil

Brendan is absolutely correct. These have a transmission that is filled with oil. We have seen many that leaked.

The bearings in the motor do not contain enough lubricant that it would ever leak out.

Often they’ll keep running a long time with a slight oil leak. Sometimes it ruins the belt or the mode shifter, but they do seem to run a few years that way sometimes.

GE tranny / and also pump in original post

If you mean "model T" GE, those have oil in the transmission.
-Original post VMW:different pump location-i have only seen the vertical pumps-is this a recirculation pump or a later design change?
