“The sun will set on the Oprah show as its 25th season draws to a close on Sept. 9, 2011,” Tim Bennett, the president of Ms. Winfrey’s production company, Harpo, said in a letter to her 214 local TV stations on Thursday evening. She will appear on her cable channel, called OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network, in some form. But “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will no longer be."

Well, I never thought for a minute that the end of her show

Actually, this seems like the next logical choice for an uppity woman who has more money than God and has snapped up all the desirable southern California real estate that's left. She owns so much of it that the area fomerly know as Montecito that it's now referred to as "Opracito". I used to "schlepp flowers" for a living. My biggest client in Houston was the Ritz Carlton Hotel. When Oprah stayed in the Presidential Suite, we were instructed to ensure that every toilet in the suite had Rose petals floating in the bowl. For what purpose, I'm not sure. I suppose it made "Miss OH" quite happy to pee or poop on Rose petals, but to me it was all in a days work.

Well Oprah has had a good run on network TV, maybe she just wants something new and different. 25 years is long enough. I worked at my last job 21 years, Change is GOOD. alr2903

Well, I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I find the term "uppity" offensive, particularly when directed at a black woman. Think what you may of Oprah, there are some things best left unsaid.

Bobby,

I think everyone here is well aware that a number of people in the club hate my guts.
That's ok, we wouldn't be a group of gay men, otherwise.

There are also people here who like me, so I feel comfortable remaining.

It's fine and dandy for you and your friends to say what you like about me, but, you know, really...what I did was to mention to John that his comment was, in my opinion, inappropriate.

What you did was to directly advocate racist remarks. Now, I don't think you did so because you're a racist, I think you did so out of a knee-jerk hate on against me.

Still - you see where blind hatred leads.

Except when I'm attacked, I try hard to ignore your clique. Wouldn't it be easier to just do the same towards me? Especially, considering that your clique first came to hate me over the Austin incident, the last thing I should think you folks would want, would be to be seen defending racism.

Again, I don't think John meant it that way, nor you...but that's what you ended up advocating in your headlong rush to 'set me straight'.

What the hell does the word "uppity" have to do with a black woman or being racist? Unconfuse me someone please because anyone can be uppity.

Anyways, good for her, I never understand why someone with so much money would want to keep working anways, regularly that is. I had enough at 50 and thankfully was able to exit the workplace. It took about 6 months for my protestant work ethic to fizzle and now I'm quite content being bone idle LOL

Sorry I even brought it up.

No, I didn't imply anything by using the word "uppity", and I'm certainly not a racist. The subtext involved with that word is how some people might choose to interpret it.

John,

I genuinely didn't assume you meant any racist comment by it.
And hope to hell, I didn't offend you.

Pete, depending on where you live and your age group, "uppity" is or was often used to describe a negro had 'gotten above themselves' by doing things or taking on 'airs' which were reserved for white people, alone.

Well into the 1950's, it was an acceptable defense (like this week's excuse from Puerto Rico for murder: "but the gay guy came on to me!" in southern courts for pounding the shit out of a negro. Often won, too.

It's a term which you obviously have not had to deal with, and that is nice.

I didn't mean to insult John by objecting to it. It was, however, the worst possible basis to 'take a stand' against me from someone who passionately defended a young man who hurt both our group and the 'other' collector's group with genuinely racist attacks...Robert was betrayed by Austin, badly and feelings there still run very high.

Why!!!!

Do some folks make something out of nothing!!!I usually do not weigh in on such things BUT!!! WE are supposed to be friends, and we all have a lot more in common, so why argue over trivial things,I have strong opinions about a lot of things, but most times I keep my mouth shut and try not to stir others up about them,Robert has worked very hard to make this a good place for all of us, we should spend our time trying to expand on that, not stir up arguments, as for Oprah,I like her show, but I never had to deal with her so I can't say how she really is,although a lot of people who are that rich are snooty, and walk around with an air of superiority,...the main thing is...who cares, she sure ain't going to give any of us any money, just my 2 cents worth...sorry if this offends, but everyone could do as my mother taught me...ive certainly not always followed it ..Say something nice or don't say anything at all..that was her motto, and it took her from being a secretary...to being the Advertising Administrator for Broyhill Furniture Industries within 15 years, something to be said for a country girl with only a high school education.

Panthera, no offense taken.

I never felt insulted or offended. I'm not sure I know the full history of what has happened in the past with this group. I probably don't need to as long I'm not misunderstood by any of you. Clearly, I had the opportunity to use any other word than "uppity".

I'm glad that she is take a break from daytime TV, 25 years in the life than is more enough.

Using the word uppity is a form of jealousy, stardom does not happen overnight but you must reinvent yourself to stay in the main steam.
She and others has done this to get ahead in life.
Look at Madonna's history, it was not pretty, but guess what? She's still around!
Now if you follow Tom Hanks, then you'll understand what I mean.
I did not recognize him in the Lady Killer until the end of the movie.

Now if I were to say "Those people give more behind the scene."
You may ask?
What you talking about?
Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, etc. who are super rich gives more than everyone that is on this board put together.
It's not just taking, but giving back and color should not hinder from giving. Not one time, but through out the year.

Think about it?

Uppity!!!!!

You are the one that bought color into it,Ive always thought it was a prudish woman or old queen. That was the other persons opinion you should have left well enough alone.Ive noticed whenever you say something unpopular you always seem to drag others into it.Like thats what we do!

Well, at least some of us...

are capable of using space bars.

And just who the hell are you to tell me I am not entitled to speak my opinions?

Things have sure changed a lot in Virginia over the last few years if that's the only meaning you assign to the term.

You just saw a chance to bitch and you took it.

Not So!!!!

Im really not a bitchy person, how long did you live in Va.You are a very smart person, but you dont know everything.I really feel you feel less than others, because you are gay.You place a label on us and think you know everything about us.Sterotyping all of us including you.Grow up!!!!

I only had the pleasure

of visiting Virginia - old relations on my mom's side.
Wish I could have stayed longer, a beautiful state with wonderful people.

Look, Bobby, you and I are always going to flame up against each other and if you genuinely didn't know the meaning of the term, I apologize. I'm getting a shitcan full of emails from your side of the club every week and they are all pretty nasty.

Pax?

Pax?

Of Course,I do have a question for you. What part of Germany do you live in? I was just outside raking leaves and thinking,I wonder if Europe is as beautiful. Best Regards Bobby
