Original Agitator?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Nice machine...I wonder why they would have switched out the agitator? Personally I like the Surgilator better if I had a choice between the two. But that's the agitator I grew up with. Mom's a diehard Whirlpool fan.

A lot of things can happen to agitators, a roofing nail in a full load of jeans can tear up a plastic agitator.  I had a friend once  that had almost a whole lower fin on her WP Super Surgilator cut away and sanded down smooth due to some horrible shoe-washing tragedy.  I doubted the wisdom of this but she claimed it worked perfectly and was (obviously) cheaper than a new agitator.

At an apartment laundramat I used the WP washers wore out their Surgilators and then those got replaced with Roto Swirls.I do like Surgilators better-but after awhile no more surgilators left. Then the WP washers got replaced with Ratheon SQ's-then did like the WP's better.

Different Agitator Than The Original

This was very common thing because WP and KM had a LOT of stripped out agitators in washers during this time period. Until WP started bolting agitators in place they had problems with either the cap coming loose or even more likely the user not keeping or even getting the cap tight enough after removing and reinstalling the agitator. This is way they started bolting them in place and they had very few problems after that time.

So when an agitator would strip out often repair people would just put in what ever was around.
