Oster blender drive block snapped off

Was making a smoothie the other day, and while adding frozen strawberries, the blender suddenly made a high pitched whine and the motor revved up. Turned it off, removed the carafe. The blade drive block had snapped off the drive shaft. Is this the death of the blender or can it be repaired? Pics to follow soon...

This is a Oster Pulse-matic from probably the late 60's/early 70's. Belonged to my grandmother; I remember it as a child in her Brooklyn apartment.
 
It can be fixed!

I have an early 60s Cyclo-Matic that had the same issue. It was pretty easy to replace the drive block - I picked up an early 80s Osterizer from the local Sally Ann (just the motor) for $3 and cannibalized the part from it. You may still be able to get the original part in the US, though..
