Help Support :

My new ride finally got here. Here is how the day started. At 10am, I was running errands and saw this tornado. I called it into 911 and then stopped at a gas station to buy a disposable camera for this picture. It never touched the ground, thank goodness. It is about 5 miles away near Bridge City, Texas.

Those trucks always make me nervous.

I'm glad it made it home safe. It looks like you have a good 2-3" of safety margin back there.

I'd gladly take two of the five vehicles on that truck.

When the weather's safe, get us some more pix!

There are a few rust issues, but the frame and rockers are rust free. The floor of the trunk is rusted out, common in old convertibles and an easy fix. There is a little rust where the front door hinges mount, will look at that ASAP - that can get serious in a hurry. The dash pad is cracked, easy to replace.

Rust and cracked dash pads were a common problem. I see that your bumpers look pretty good -- even around the idiotic jack slots. That was a common place for rust to get 'hold.

My 1966, 1970, and 1975 had that type of speedometer. Very cool. It changes color when you go over 65(?)

I don't have the 1975 owner's manual.

I just checked the manual from my 1970, and that one would read out on a red background above 70MPH.

Where did the car originate from?

I have seen autos loaded on those open carriers before like that. Scares the crap out of me to drive behind them. A woman I once worked with had a tow truck lose a car on the freeway directly in front of her. Needless to say she survived, but will never be the same again.

Here is a photo of my new bug arriving from California last week.
This is shipping in style!

oooohhhh

The big sedan is a Caddy, a Fleetwood Brougham or possibly a De Ville given the year. I'd take just about anything on there, except the Suzuki; dunno how they can make such great bikes and such crappy cars. The Disco is a great vehicle, though! Especially the 5-speed stick.

That Lincoln is a sweet one; only thing that would sweeten the dish is the light blue versus the red; I'm not a big fan of red/white combos.

Exploder,

Well, the "Deusenberg" was just a "deuce" coupe, a two door T bucket. Whenever I call something a Deusy, I mean a Deusenberg. I guess the to the seller of my car it means any two door open coupe.

The car originated from Amsterdam, NY and really has very few rust issues considering. The seller parked it indoors every winter and never took it out when there was salt on the roads. The open shipping was dictated by finances - I couldn't find closed transport for under $1800 and the open transport was half that amount. The company I used has a good rep and all drivers are licensed, bonded, insured, etc. I had my '58 Buick shipped like this and it was fine. I'll have to prive Curves Ahead next time - they didn't come up in my searches.

The brown Cadillac sedan is a 1973 Deville with rust issues, not sure it is worth the effort to restore as they are common and it would be cheaper to buy a nicer one. It was headed to a dealer who already had it sold.

The Lincoln handles great. I drove it around yesterday several times. It feels nice and rigid - the conversion shop did a good job bracing the frame. I was able to see the bracing when it was on the truck. That would have been the first to rust out if the car was poorly cared for - not a single pit on any of it. I have to replace the master cvylinder - pedal pressure bleeds off at stop lights. Its on order - only $14.00 - but not in stock at O'Reilly.

Its still very nice

The Suzuki is a clone of a Daewoo, made by GDat or GM Daewoo.. There is a delivery company that uses these here and they all have 150K+.. They are nice little cars for those who can't afford much else...
The disco is a whole nother box of rocks... Like any british car here they are very fragile and must be babbied... Not something i coudl drive, like my toyota or ford.. Mind you i keep cars up, but am rough on them. A friend had a 98 discovery and i used ofr about 2 months and i broke $1130 worth of stuff on it just because of my rough ness... Also they don't ride or handle very well

OK BACK to THE Lincoln

Transport Pricing

A guy I know who has a huge auto collection (600 cars and his own private museum!) uses Curves Ahead. Never had a problem with them.
If I were to have shipped that bug from SFO-HOU, it would have been $975 open carrier, or $1380 enclosed. Since the paint in the bug is original and in like new shape I decided to ship in an enclosed carrier.

That Lincoln sure is nice! I think that they made a classier product than Cadillac during the 70's and most definitely in the late 80's early 90's.
Do you have a Lincoln car club in your area? I know that they have a rather large one here in Houston. Nice guys. They asked me to speak at one of their meetings one time. Great connections for hard to find parts.

I would have paid $1380, but couldn't swing $1800+.

No Lincoln club here, I'm 80 miles from Houston so i doubt I'll join them. I will join the national club though.
