Maybe not a record but 1.5 days was pretty good. We listed our house on Monday and it went on the market Tuesday, sold it yesterday (Wednesday) with people trying to outbid each other.. finally we got what we wanted with absolutely no conditions, approvals, financing, zip.. Cash SOLD. I've been a nervous wreck since Monday but that's all behind me now and the hunt for a new place back east begins in ernest.

Wow, That is super Pete! around here it takes months!Looking foward to seeing your new home, but believe me when I tell you that moving a collection is not an easy task!

CONGRATULATIONS TO YA!

This is excellent news!

Now you get to clean up someone's else's dirt in your new house (TE HE HE HE)..... and get rid of THIER bad taste!

Much happines in your new place and with your new beginning!

Great for you Peter ..

Life can be so wonderful when people with Cash are involved and they just give it to you ... and that short a time, it must have been a very desireable place to live. Good luck on your quest for a new home.

Congrats Pete

As said before, now the real fun starts with the move.
Keep us posted on how it all goes!

Thanks all, we're so relieved it's over and really looking forward to a new start in a new place, although it's not new to me being my hometown I haven't lived there for 32 years. Mom and 2 sisters are thrilled. It had been playing on my mind also that my mom now in her 80's but still highly active isn't going to be forever and one of my sisters isn't well leaves my other sister sometimes stuck with having to run special errands/appointments etc for them so at least it will help out that away. I'm betwixt and between on what kind of house and property to look for. It's been nice having 5 acres but it's also a ton of work so something more manageable might be in order. My partner is also caving to the idea that it was as well, plus he's seen some pics of all the tree's and wood like settings some of these houses are situated in and likes that idea. He spent quite a few summers planting hundreds of evergreens, shrubs and hedges around our place and after 13 years it's finally taking shape and looking nice so that's kind of sad to leave behind.

Congrats, Pete!

Have fun moving your collection...
I moved what was left of mine over two days, over two weekends.. Two Sundays ago, and this past Saturday.. a total of 6 trips with a cargo van FULL each time. I moved most of my Hoovers back in January...

Thanks again to Jeff who came up and helped move a ton! of stuff (Tania-a local vac gal, too...)

It's now all neatly piled in my half of the garage at mom's house, waiting to be unpacked and displayed. It's true what they say.... You don't know how much stuff you have until you have to move it.

Dad's house went on the market yesterday. It's already being shown tonight... I hope that's a good sign.

Hi Robert.. yup..back to my hometown Sarnia or vicinity..60 miles north of Detroit on Lake Huron. Since houses there are a fraction of the cost here it doesn't make any sense for us to stay. I'm looking forward to everything but the humidity LOL

Well....

Lakes, and ponds, and swimming pools, and air conditioning, restored vintage fans,(to make the air conditioning go further,) ice cream, and ice cubes in lovely beverages....

A weekend place in the Kawarthas or Georgian Bay?
(We used to lease a place near Bracebridge, and visit family near Peterborough.)

Congratulations Pete! (I sent you an email). The thought of humidity would stop me in my tracks, I sure don't miss that, but I hope you find a wonderful home and some great places to score finds around the new place too!

Moving is quite a process, though in some ways I found it easier moving across the country than across town. Try and look at it as an adventure, and it will be great. It actually is when you think about it; when you get to your destination everything you do from grocery shopping to whatever down the line is a new adventure.

Moving to California is probably one of the best decisions I ever made, and I hope your move will be just as successful for you!

Hey Pete! Sounds like you guys are quite excited, which is a good thing. IIRC, the booking agent for our movie theater (lives in Dallas / Rockwall) is originally from Sarnia. I think I've heard that name somewhere, anyway.

Congrats on the quick sale, is that the norm for your area? I had the same situation when I sold and moved last year. There was a couple already waiting for me to make the decision. I listed with the realtor on a Mon or Tue early afternoon (I think it was), they looked at the house that evening, signed the papers the next day.

I've moved only three times since leaving the parents' home in 1985, and two of the moves were within the same town. I can't imagine the effort and planning needed to move across country! Talk about an adventure, wow!

Calgary is absolutely booming at a phenomenal rate and there is a severe labor shortage everywhere including the buildling trades. They don't expect to catch up to demand until next year. Naturally the house prices have skyrocketed, increasing on average $500 per day so it says in the newspaper. We figure our house quadrupled in value since we bought it in 93 and most of that increase has been in the last two years. There's a mass exodus of people leaving other parts of the country but of course that's all driving up prices as well, they get here now and they can't afford a house anymore. I'll probably get a Uhaul 24 foot truck and trailer.. cost for 8 days usage back to Sarnia.. $500.00 in the reverse direction + $5,000. We probably could have hung on longer and tried for more but I'd rather get out now.
