Our New Vacuum At Work

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

We had a very similar vacuum (I think it was a Dayton brand) at a pool hall I worked at years ago. We had 23,000 sq feet of carpet to maintain. This monster did clear a wide path, but it wasn't maneuverable enough so it didn't see a lot of service. For hallways it would likely work well. We only used it for traffic areas.

For the most part we did all our vacuuming with a pair of 14" Riccar uprights. They could get under the tables and seating far easier.

Have a Powerflite 24" vacuum that is similar-just use it at my place occasionally to go down my hallway.Does do a good job-10A direct air system.Yes,these vacuums are the size of push mowers and you use them in a similar way. These vacuums are too large and heavy to go back and forth as with a smaller vacuum cleaner.

I used one of these once when I worked at a hotel I'm the banquet hall. They didn't maintain it at all because it hardly picked anything up.

I noticed our cleaning guy just got one of these. I suggested he get the rider. We have very low pile commercial carpet so I guess it does ok. Sure does spew the dust as he goes down the hall though.

Luckily the NF on 2nd floor isn't carpeted so the residents there won't be subjected to the dust cloud. Must be a huge difference for the cleaning guy though, before he was doing the floor (half way) with a Pro-team upright.

Clarke experience

As a kid I worked for a bank - to clean and fix things and run errands etc.
This was about 1977. We had this huge, old Clarke vac like you show but it had this gigantic cloth bag that inflated out the back. The vac was red.
The bag was big but was held in only by a cloth strap and turnbuckle type thing.
If you didn't tighten it exactly right.... you would be in the middle of vacuuming the lobby and WOOOFF! the bag would blow off covering you with dust since the motor was still running.
.... And you would hear the tellers laughing at you as they counted their money...

Your new Clarke looks MUCH improved!!

We have the Hoover version of the machine at the church where I am Building Manager.  Ours is a 36 inch model and is used in a large gathering hall and hallways.  I have developed my skills to make it fairly maneuverable, still however there is only so much you can do with it.  Ours has the 3 motor system and works quite well, we don't have problems with dust spewing or any other issues with it.  The turbine powered head that comes with this machine is fairly worthless because of the design of it.  We have given ours the name of "The Big Ass Hoover"
