Out with a Whirlpool, in with a Zanussi Jetsystem

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Sorry, forgot to say - one of the main reaons for going for a Bosch is because I know the powder drawer flushes every last bit in. My Zanussi used to leave specks in the drawer and a puddle of unused powder at the back of the chamber. This is important to me. Have you noticed how your Zanny does in this respect. Rob?

I'd quite like to have a new Zanussi myself but it's the baby of the family, the ZWC1300.

I'd have it as a courtesy machine to the Miele when it's not being used but sadly my mum won't let me have it lol.

Btw, I like the vid of the Zanussi, it's so quiet. Almost as quiet as my Miele lol.

Whirlpool

Hi Rob, I think your Whirlpool dates from around 2002, my sister had the same machine up until 3 weeks ago but 3 kids and 4 loads of washing a day for 6 yrs took its toal. I thought it was a great machine but far too noisy. Against my advise she has bought a BOL indesit, somehow I doubt if that will last 6yrs!!

Congratulations on getting the Zanussi, I have been looking at the same machine myself as I have an open plan kitchen/living room and it would be great to have a machine that was not too intrusive when watching TV.

Hi all and thanks for your comments again and to AEG03 for explain the reasons for certain things. The machine certainly is quiet, which is just what I wanted for my open plan kitchen in my flat.

Hi Nick, your questions I’ll will see what I can do. The problem is that I’m not always at the flat so I will do this from memory.

Firstly, I haven’t noticed any hissy filling noises. I know some machines can make these, but this seems alright. Likewise the jetsystem is almost silent with a very slight hum. I can actually hear the water more. I personally really like the powder drawer and I have seen no residual powder left at all. I don’t recall the pump turning on and off that much! I certainly notice my sisters LG doing that quite a lot. I think it might cut out at the fluffing stage just before the very final burst but not otherwise. The motor noise is similar to the Aqualtis but much quieter than the other standard Hotpoint inverter motors. My WD640 was quiet on low spins but could get noisy at 1400. Of course the Aqualtis noisy pump can ruin things but the Zanussi pump seems reasonable.

Don’t worry about mentioning the Bosch at all, this is how the thread evolves. Is this the one?

PaulC thanks for your comments on the Whirlpool, I actually really liked this machine and am glad my brother has it now. It was a no nonsense machine but like you say far to loud. Even the pump was noisy. I just couldn’t use it to wash at night. Have some vids for it to add later.

Hi Rob, thanks so much for answering my many questions. Yes, that's the picture of the Bosch. My wife prefers the look of it to the Zanussi because `it has a square above a circle rather than a little circle over a big circle' LOL!

It's still on order (the Bosch) but on the basis of your answers I'm even more likely to cancel and go for the Zanussi. I have done a trawel and am assuming that for the price, you must have got yours from Redhill Appliances or a similar on-line retailer.

Like yourself, PaulC, our house is all open plan and I think the Bosch will, overall, be more audible (and irritating to my wife, but I quite like washer noise) than the old LG or potential new Zanny.

I still have things playing on my mind.... firstly, on my previous Zanussi I was dismayed that after a while the printed stuff wore off the facia just through normal use and light cleaning. I wish I'd looked in Comet to see if they've improved what I used to call the `transfers'....

It also went crazy unbalanced with towels a couple of times and scratched the door glass, as a couple of other posters have mentioned about that generation of E'lux machines. I have to keep telling myself to let go of the past! This new proposition is probably a completely different machine.....

Thanks again for all your help....

Nick

All I can say Nick is to go with your heart. I know I can drive myself mad trying to decide what to get. Of course nothing is guaranteed, you may get a Friday night machine that’s crap but then that can happen to any machine, even Miele! I haven’t had any balancing or noise problems yet but then it’s very early days. I suppose if you got something you were not sure about you could sell it in about a year on ebay! Hope whatever you get it’s good for you!

BTW I got mine from Sainsburys online! They had the best price with delivery to a flat (Redhill appliance were fussy about that). I must say their customer service was very good! I had to wait because they said the machine was so popular it had run out.of stock. I decided to wait as it was what I really wanted and I rushed years ago and regretted it!

The Hotpoint 18580 is doing fine, although she leaks at the front slightly. I do use her very rarely now but she is still standing there proudly amongst my collection.

Disappearing Fascia Text

If they went back to their older styles of control panels, they wouldn't have this problem.

My Zanussi IZ16S has the text protected by perspex coverings, and the control buttons are sealed rubber.

If it is any consolation, I read somewhere online that Hoover was/is the worst for control panel info disappearing!

Video's

Here are some videos I did yesterday. The first is an overview and the wash.

The second, is the distribution rinse and interim spins.

This may not work, otherwise go to my channel

Hi Jed and thanks, although I absolutely hate my voice on film. It's rough old south London LOL!

I must say I really love this machine, it's a lot of fun. Not sure if the distribution rinse or jet helps but who cares it's fun.

BTW I did check and the the pump does not go on and off, the jet is virtually silent and the filling is very quiet.

I hope you enjoy my vids, I will be adding the Whirlpool ones soon.

Rob

Rob - great machine! Very similar to my AEG Lavamat 86741 that my grandparents now own - sometimes wish I never gave that machine away now!

My sister has the 1200 Essential model and it's a nice machine, motor actually sounds very similar to Darren's FJ1033, not seen my sister's machine on the rinse cycle though so not sure whether it does the distribution rinses. Absolutely the best machines she could have got for her money though - she almost bought an Indesit, and I could see her (bearing in mind she has a baby due) having a broken washer with piles of baby clothes to wash - so was glad she bought the Zanussi instead after my advice!

Hi Jon, and thanks for your comments, I hope you are well.

For those of you that are interested I have done a quick vid of my old Whirlpool.

Rob

hey rob

Nice machine, I see they have gone back to the old small hose for the jetsystem like mine :) my washer is from 2001, and it is still going strong, it is going to be 7 years old next month, and not a thing has gone wrong with it since we got it, and it is still as quiet as ever.

I've started doing washing on 30'c now, because its more eco friendly and i find it does a good job and most of my clothes are lightly soiled. I find the jetsystem is very efficient at removing stains even at low temps so i find that a hot wash isn't needed anymore.

I love my machine because its so flexible, and we have a 50'c wash as well.

I have been using Tesco Colours Tablets in it for my coloured washes which i am quite impressed by the cleaning performance and they are good value £2.75 for a big box of 48 tablets.

The whites get Surf Tropical Tablets, because they smell really nice and do a good job of getting the whites clean. £2 for a box of 18 (9 washes) from Asda

and Softener i'm using Lenor Spring.

I hope you are happy with your purchase rob, and my your machine have a very long life

Hi Zanussi Lover

Thanks for your very kind message! Mine won't get a huge amount of use so I hope it goes on for many years to come. Thanks for the note on the powder as well!

One final note is that I tried the Easy Iron option and Extra rinse option (not together) on the rinse only cycle. The rinse only is based on a cottons full 3 rinses.

Extra rinse adds a rinse and does only 1 min 500 spins.

The Easy Iron option does 5 rinses (yes 5) with no interim spins just fluffing. The final spin is then done in ever increasing pulses with two final bursts at 900 for about 10 seconds each. Things are more damp but are pretty crease free.

Yes, it's a really nice machine here, I hope it lasts for many years to come.

I just like how silent it is, it's kinda like a similar AEG with the same amount of features lol.

But I do wish Zanussi would go back to the innovative and classy era of the 80's and 90's. The Zanussi brand doesn't feel quite the same now lol.
