Out with the old, in with the new, new washer and dryer

The Siemens washing machine started to get a bit noisy on the spin cycle, it sounded much like the bearings started to get worse. So it was time to treat myself to a new washer and a new dryer. A new dryer too because modern heat pump dryers are way more efficient than the Miele condenser dryer.

Hi Ingemar,

Thank you! No, this is not an i-dos machine. I didn't want that, I use too many different detergents and often a powder. I prefer the classic detergent drawer with three compartments for prewash, main wash and softener.

your Siemens was an attractive set, but, Miele is known to have the longest lasting bearings, today at least in their most expensive washers.
I hope My Maytag Bravos X liquid silver color washer lasts another year or two.
Looks nice, but had a bearing and gear case job under extended warranty winter 2015. Was new in December 2010.

Just for the record, the first picture is of the new matching Siemens set, the second picture of the old Siemens washer and the old Miele dryer. I guess it wasn't a good idea to post the picture of the new set first. lol

Thank you for the clarification.  Nice looking set.  I guess this is the new "style" for front loaders.  Kind of reminds me of the new Mieles as well as the white color models of the impending Whirlpool front loaders.  Kind of reminds me of Bendix washers.

The control looks simple...just one knob I can see.  How does it work?

Besides the control there is a on and off button in the middle. But both the washer and the dryer also have a touch screen. I will make pictures of that later.

As this becomes the norm it would be great if we had full program control to make our own custom cycles.

 

Unfortunately I could picture Whirlpool doing the opposite, displaying pictures of "towels" or "jeans" and just having the user touch the picture and the machine does the rest.

No, the dryer door is not reversible.

Here are pictures of the displays. The selected option is bright, if you can change it is still visible, if you can't change it anymore, then the options disappear totally from the screen. You can still change the extra rinse option, even when rinsing has started. In the first picture you can see that the temperature can't be changed anymore.

A heatpump dryer has longer cycles but it's very energy efficient. The dryer draws max. 800 Watts, that means that I can run the washer and the dryer on one 16 Amps 230 Volts circuit.

The 2 x 5 segments are an indication of how much electricity and water the machine will use ranging from 1 to 5.

This is now the only set in use. I kept the LG Turbodrum and the little AEG H-axis toploader. The LG is in the bathroom, I have tried to hook it up, but a special connector I bought doesn't fit. I had planned to hook it up on the faucet of the bathtub, but it just didn't work. Will look into that matter sometime, but I'm not in a hurry.

So far I'm happy too. It can use lots of water if necessary and can be economical when desired. Cycle times are longer than the previous Siemens, but there are some short options available. Shortest cycle is 15 minutes with one wash and two rinses.

Actually I have no idea where these were made. There is no "Made in Germany" label on them, so probably in another country. BSH opened two new factories in Poland, so perhaps there?
