Out with the old, in with the new

My old fridge/freezer was at the end of it's life. Slowly there was a gletscher building up inside the fridge. After twenty years it was time to replace it. Here are a few pictures of the old one from a while ago. It was a Marynen with bottom freezer.

Here's the new one, it's a Bosch KGN73E03. It's a No Frost model.

Yes, this fridge is indeed 20cm / 8 inches taller and 5cm / 2 inches wider.

BTW, what you can't see is that there is another bottle of coke on the back of the top shelf next to a full bottle of diet coke.

That refrigerator looks most generously sized. I remember the ones in the UK that just fit under the counter top. Very small capacity. Yours is almost the size we have on this side of the pond.

Allen, it's not really an American sized fridge but it will do fine for me. The size is 1.75 metres high and 60cm wide (5 ft 7 inches high and 23.6 inches wide)

Theo, I had a look at Liebherr fridges too, but they were either too small, too high or didn't have the no frost option. Perhaps I could have orderded one but it would have gotten more expensive I guess. This one was on sale for €499.-

Thank you Bob, I find those drawers very handy. Since the freezer is at the bottom you can see better what is in the freezer, you don't have to stoop to see what's in there.

Was the old one NOT frost-free?
Is the back smooth, or are there (heat-dispersing) coils?

Silly me, I thought all fridges were 60cm "standard" in width!

How compares the energy consumption with the old fridge? I have an old one that is really wasteful, more than 2 kWh per day for a 50 cm wide table model! So I have been looking into the Liebherr range recently

I now use (temporarily) an absorption fridge that is very small, but uses only half of the energy of my old fridge.

The old one wasn't frost free. Twenty years ago that wasn't very common overhere. The back of the new fridge has coils at the back. I was surprised to see that because I've seen fridges with a smooth back in the past. I guess the ones with coils are more energy efficient.

Fridges are in several widths available here, 60cm is the most common size, 50cm, 55cm, 70cm and 75cm are available too.

I bet I'm going to save a lot of money! The old fridge's insulation had started to detoriate. It was running almost all day. About 8 years ago it got a new thermostat, temperature inside was rather low since then, even on the least cold setting.
