...and in with the new! Mike and I have been working hard to settle into our 1927 built home here in the Hudson Valley of New York. We love the house - but didn't love the prior owner's choices in the kitchen. We've just finished a kitchen re-do to that swapped out some cabinets and the counters and tile. We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! The house came with a Viking Professional gas range and refrigerator. We swapped out the old Bosch dishwasher with a new GE/Monogram - with lights inside! Way cool. Check out some of the before and afters!

Fabulous job imo. All that's missing in the before photos is Ann B. Davis. :)

Very nice! I like the glass back splash above the stove. What color is that wall where the phone is? Looks like a dark gray, whatever it goes well. I have a white kitchen too, and that wall color you have looks good with the white cabinets. It's giving me an idea.

Thanks for the kind words!

to answer a few questions --

We went all white, as it wasn't a total gut job. The only cabinets that were replaced were the uppers on the wall opposite the stove. (With the lighted cabinet.) I just put new doors on all of the rest of the uppers to get rid of the colonial arch and that oddly placed knob that was at the top of each door. The kitchen came with Mackenzie Childs knobs as well as all of that colorful tile. Nice in its own right but too much for me! We may still paint the island black to make it look more like furniture.

I love the floor too! It's a new Congoleum product that went right over the ugly tile!

The walls are a dark silvery gray which pops the white and stainless. Came from Sherwin Williams - painted with a bit of a shine which reflects the light too.

Nice!

I like the floor. The wall behind the stove (I forget what it's called) looks much better now. Those red counter tops were horrid. The original floor wasn't bad but didn't seem to go with the rest of the kitchen. The new one is much nicer, of course.

May you 2 have many happy years there.

Jim

Thanks Jim and Jerrod

The red was a bit much! The old floor was functional and easy to clean -- but just not nice to look at! It really was like the tile you'd see in a Burger King kitchen!

We love the reflective light from the glass tile. Found it at Home Depot. The installers did a great job. Some of the small areas in the butler's pantry took a lot of precise cutting to get right. It's over 70 sf of tile!

very very nice and like a fresh breath of air...congrats. The original look was a statement for those who love red accents, but I like what you both did there.

Enjoy! :-)

Orange or even red is one thing, salmonella bubble gum pink is another imo. Even the Brady Bunch went with orange in the 70's. :) Maybe the camera's white balance is off and the counters were in fact red?

If the color is accurate there's definitely a reason it was paired with white cabinets, and the mishmash of colors on the backsplash tile: just try and find another solid color that looks good up against that pink. Even gray, which is a nice (and often only) option with pink wouldn't work in this case.

Anyway very good call imo, it looks great.

GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS!!

I'm a big fan of Peekskill, too!!

Frankly, I think I've had my fill of Manhattan.
