Overpriced Miele???

Is this guy on crack? Even if this set has never been used, it's an older model and certainly not worth $3000.00. I have always wanted a W1986, though, so I put in a bid of $750.00, which I assume will be rejected. We'll see, though. I'd like to find a "real" Miele (220V) before they're all gone. They are only about 6 hours away from here (which is pretty close for Texas)!

The auction is for the washer and dryer. Opening bid price is a bit under what both would have cost new, IIRC.

As goes the way of most things, now that Miele has discontinued 220V laundry appliaces in the United States, they are becoming highly sought after. Especially by those who purchased any of the newer models and want machines that use a tad bit more water and don't require a degree in computers or a script kid standing by to reprogramme the thing to get what one wants done.

Can't be sure if this is set has been on offer before, but wishing you the best of luck!

The price of a new European made machine is going to be exceptionally high at the moment too as the US$ is so weak at the moment against the Euro

Not if your buying Miele's, I doubt you'd be able to get it all for about £1000. Our washing machine alone was £860 on sale, I addmit it is one of the more high end models, but even the BOL model would set you back £500 almost depending on where you shop

And five hundred GBP is about one thousand or more,give or take USD. Add to this shipping, freight and export/import duties and the 1200 USD or so for a Miele washing machine seems a snip.

Shipping crates across the seas isn't exactly cheap, and even Miele has to pay going rates. I mean it's not like Miele owns a ship or something for in house shipping.

Bosch got around this problem by building a plant in the United States, same as many Asian car makers. That seems to be the way many are going, especially as fuel costs rise which affects everything from air to sea cargo. Read this week that it now costs about 8000 USD to ship an ordinary container from China to the United States.

Considering that I've been able to buy used Miele washers for as little as $50 (stacking washer/dryer W1065/D1036) up to $400 washer dryer (W1065/D1070), yeah, that asking price is a bit steep. I even got a W1065 for free - it had stopped working but I was able to revive it with a $20 part.

Yes, and those delightfully high fuel costs are starting to bring production of certain items back home to the US. It is no longer less expensive to produce most grades of steel in China than it is to do so in the US.
