Owwwwch.

Walking to the bank this afternoon, I tripped and fell, and scraped my left knee. Worse, I re-injured the right ankle that I had injured a few months ago.

I then went to the library for the evening, which is just two blocks up from the bank.

I had hoped that there would have been someone I knew from church or various civic functions there to offer me a ride home. No. Such. Luck.

I haven't hurt this much in some time. Took me an hour to walk home a half mile.

Plus since I don't drink (any more) and try to "practise these principles," I gave away my last three generic Vicodin (leftover from the biopsy this March.)

Ouch.

It will be better in time, but hurts a lot now.

Just felt a deep need to say Ouch.

Feel better, man....

I bet Kent has the same problem DC does. Evil sidewalks. They just wait for me to come strolling along, casually, totally unsuspecting, and then one of them raises up a few inches. BOOM! Me with skinned knees. I never hear them giggle, but I suspect they do....
I can totally sympathize with you.

Hugs, Douglas

sorry to hear maytagbear

chin up as we say here in the uk- youl be right in no time. A fall can be one of the most painful things for the lasting aches. I just looked at your profile and noticed something cool! My birthday is July 11th too! Big Hugs to you my fellow cancerian! Nick

Remember Bactine?

They STILL sell it, thank God!

Use (to facilitate healing), in order:

Neosporin, then Aquaphor ointment, then Eucerin cream, then finally decent quality cocoa butter. Makes a difference.

Be kind to yourself!

Blessings....

Dr Bombay, Calling Dr. Bombay

Lawrence,

Ice for the first 24 hours, elevation and start taking Ibuprofin , 2 every 4 hours. You can take up to 4,000 mgs a day, on prescription dose. Take 2 aspirin every 4 hours. Do not exceed 16 in 24 hours.

Take the antiflammatory and the analgesic at the same time, they have two different purposes. Ibuprofin does not work until you have a level in your blood stream and you must maintain that level for several days before it really begins to work.

I freeze dried beans or rice to use as ice packs because they are not harmed by refreezing, they conform to your shape and they don't drip.

After 24 hours, begin the cycle of cold and hot compress. A topical like Icy Hot may help. Wear shoes that come around your ankle and tie them tightly. If your Ace bandages have become Age bandages, consider sports wrap. It is inexpensive and reusable if you're miserly.

Take two phones, and swallow me in the morning.

Hugs,
Kelly

Hey Lawrence, Please Read (This Might Help)

Sorry to hear about your fall and so very sorry about your pain.

Chris and I had a situation a while back where he was in very severe pain (two failing teeth that were decayed down to the root and putting him through HELL). We have no dental plan for him (the company I work for doesn't extend benefits to domestic partners, so we had to wait for nearly a month before we could find an oral surgeon who could take care of him that we could afford).

A friend and co-worker of mine suggested a non-narcotic, pain relieving "cocktail," which her dentist had suggested to her. Basically, it consists of taking three ibuprofens and two Tylenols. Since they're unrelated pain relievers, and work in slightly different ways, the sum of the effect is more than the individual drugs.

It worked for Chris, and knocked his pain better than the generic Loratabs (think Vicodin on steroids) they gave him after his oral surgery, with none of the "loopiness" of the narcotics. I have since tried it on the arthritus that I have, and I have to say, it works miraculously on me too.

If you're still having pain, I would try this. Chris even bumped his up to four motrins and two Tylenols at the end, and it kept him largely pain free.

God bless, and hope you feel better soon...oh...and you can also boost pain relief by up to 40% by adding some caffeine to the mixture (the magical ingredient in Excedrin and Anacin).

Mike

Be glad that it's only your Ace Bandages that have lost their elasticity. And if you need to use a cane, use one. They are also great for working your way through crowds, but you have to take lessons in that from imperious old ladies.
