OxycleanToss' N Go Detergent Ball

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Interesting, but how does it not keep dispensing detergent throughout the cycle? I was going to take advantage of the 'one for free' offer, but they want $5 for shipping, so fugeddaboutit.

Would be interesting to find out how well it cleans. I'd love to test it on one of my uber-stained loads of kitchen whites.

I've seen the constant commercials for these things...yet another gimmick that I don't want! I would, however, LOVE to get my hands on a glass "demo washer" like the one you see in the OxiClean commercial from time to time. This particular one had a DD straight-vane, but I've also seen one with a Surgilator in it.

Really now, how hard is it to measure your detergent yourself?? I mean, isn't that part of the fun of doing laundry?

I suppose if you live in an apt. building and have to schlep your dirties down to a coin-op laundry room, it would be nice not to have to drag a big bottle or box of detergent around. But as you mentioned, using and measuring out all the laundry products is part of the allure for people like us.

If it really works, this could be big. My skepticism is triggered by these questions: How do you know when it's lived out its useful life? Will it gradually lose its potency? I have a hard time believing it will work as well on its 70th load as it did on its first. How does it not add detergent to the rinse cycle? Is it triggered by warm/hot water but not cold, maybe?

Re: Maybe:

We should all contact the Company, to see if they might tell us how the Oxy-Ball Dispenses. I would tell them that I would like to know how the product works, before getting the Free Sample.

Here is the info for Contacting them. I was hoping that they would have an E-Mail Address, but they don't at least admit to having one...

We should Post what we find out, to share with others.

Peace and Good Luck, Steve

Oxyclean ball

Hi all of you!
The "secret" of that ball should be the same as with the "Tabs" here in Germany for the dishwashers. There's a coating arround each layer of detergent that has a special point of temperature to dilute. With the "Tabs" here, the first layer melts in cold or luke-warm water for the pre-rinse. Next layer dilutes only at temperatures higher than 50°C for the cleaning, finally there's a little red ball inside the "Tabs" which only melts at 65°C and which contains the rinsing agent. Unfortunately there are also cycles with 70°C or gentle programmes with only 45°C in which the mechanism doesn't work!!
The Oxyclean-balls, I think though, do not dilute in cold water but in warm or hot water, so the first layer of detergent dilutes in the first wash-water down to a second layer of protection film which melts only in cold water. This protects the next layer of warm-dilutable film underneath from diluting during the first wash. When rinsing takes place, the cold-diluting layer gets washed away but the next hot-diluting layer can't melt in the cold rinse-water. So up to the next wash, nothing happens. And so it goes on layer by layer, until all the detergents have washed away....
That works as long as you do not pre-wash, neither rinse with warm water, nor wash with cold water....
So, I'm asking here: what is it worth for? To me it's a toy for adults!
Greetings from "Merry Ol' Germany" - Ralf

Interesting! Thanks for the information, Liederstiefel1.

Another reason I'm skeptical of the ball is you can't change the amount of detergent from one load to the next. A small load of lightly soiled items gets the same amount of detergent as a full load of heavily soiled/stained items.

Question for Jason...

Hey there

Im interigued at the thought of a drum type top load washer being classed as HE- we dont have such things over here(our top loaders are just a front loading drum in a narrow cabinet that you open flaps on and load from above). Is it things like auto water level sensing etc that make it qualify or are there other factors as well????

Seamus

Oh it's simple

Since Oxyclean doesn't really do anything anyway, it doesn't matter if it's in the rinse cycle!

:-)

(someone shut that Billy Mays freakshow up)

I wondered about the same thing, how does it not dispense in the rinse cycle?

The answer is obvious, it does dispense during the rinse cycle.

HE Topload machines

Hi Seamus,

The HE TL machines we have in AU, usually have water level sensing, our technology other than the F&P isnt as smart as the Oasis/Cabrio and the domestic brands here acheive HE status by doing Long spray rinses. They claim to do the same job, but save about 50L of water compared to the deep rinse. It takes a very long time though to complete.
