I wanted to thank whoever mentioned that a new version of Oxydol is available; I found it at Big Lots and bought two jugsful. The former brand owner, Redox, has evidently sold it off to someone else, CR Brands, about whom I know nothing, but who seems to be doing a better job with it than Redox did.

When I smelt it, I was taken back in time - it smells like the old Oxydol, only toned 'way down (I bought the "Clean 'n Fresh" formula). The classic powdered Oxydol with the green flecks in it was very strong in scent - my grandmother used to dote on the stuff, used in conjunction with Clorox for whites and Wisk for "ring aroung the collar." You don't have to fool much with those rings any more, but in the non-airconditioned, heavily polluted '50s, they were the bane of every housewife. Anyway, a white shirt turned out by my grandmother reeked of Oxydol, Clorox, Wisk, and Argo starch - you knew that sucker was clean!

The new Oxydol cleans well and is very concentrated; a little dab'll do ya. Clothes come out smelling fresh, no Paris Hilton floral/fruity reek (there is also a mango-scented version for those who want to get their girly on). I'm happy. Again, thanks to whoever alerted us to this!

Just Found Out:

CR Brands actually is Redox Brands, after a merger. Here's what their Website says:

"With offices in Spartanburg, SC and West Chester, Ohio, CR Brands was formed by the merger of ChemPro Inc and Redox Brands and is a majority-owned portfolio company of Allied Capital."

From the info posted here previously, I had thought Redox had sold off Oxydol to another company, but it's the same one, post-merger.

For Old Times' Sake:

Here's a 1957 ad with the Oxydol box I remember so well. The green flecks in the detergent were an oxygen bleach, which just goes to show that whatever goes around comes around - everyone's hipped on oxygen bleach today, but we were doing that fifty years ago.

Hi Sandy~ It was me......

I had posted a thread awhile back about "new" Oxydol. You should really find some of the powdered version, it is awesome!

Enjoy,

Shane

Have you tried the powder in a front loader? I saw it at a supermarket, but the instructions for front loaders were kind of vague. I'd like to try it if it works OK and is not too sudsy in the front loader.

Two Big Lots Here

There is one directly next door to the liBEARy where I'll be headed with the laptop this weekend, so I will have to check that out...if they don't have it, I will check the other one on the other side of town on Sunday afternoon...I have to go in that direction to get to the mall.

I've always liked the fragrance of Oxydol...it had a good, clean scent to it. When I was a kid, Mrs. Skipworth, who lived down the street, used it religiously in her GE Filter Flo (this was back in the mid-60's).

Yes...

I have used Oxydol powder in my LG front load machine. I just use less of the recommended amount, and it works just fine.
