I recently placed an online order of the fabulous classic detergent, Oxydol.( 4 -100oz boxes for 23.00) I can't find it here at all in stores here in Florida.
Has anyone seen it in their local supermarket?..This is one great detergent. I sure hope it still has the same great scent!

~Thanks

Oxydol Was Sold Off

From (want to say P&G, but maybe Colgate/Palmolive), along with Dynamo and other "low performing" brands. IIRC Redoux Brands (same people who purchased Biz), now make Oxydol. In short if you were expecting the great vintage Oxydol, you might wish to start hitting eBay or estate sales.

Yes we can buy it here at Target in Minneapolis, I love scent but questioned it's cleaning ability, for general office clothes it should be fine.

The Redox people are the first ones to confirm my suspicions about HE detergents and were honest about actual usage of their product in FL machines so I like buying their products when I can. P&G has seen to it, of course, that they are hardly available at all in the big markets. Are people rating Oxydol's cleaning ability from actual experience or are they going by what CU ratings say? I've found little difference, if any, between domestic laundry detergents and I wash very dirty loads of chef clothing. The most dramatic difference I've seen has been between domestic detergents and the professional stuff I've gotten from ECOLAB that has phosphates in the formula. Also, professional ALL has produces absolutely no suds whatsoever like dishwasher detergents.

Re: Oxydol;

Oxydol is not the same as it used to be. When Proctor and Gambles sold off the Oxydol line to Redox they changed the formula and its not as good as it used to be. I have used it and did not get as good results as I used to when we were using it back in the 80's and 90's. But I have found a detergent that will do as good as old Oxydol and that is Gain/bleach. I like it very well. One thing I want to say is if you can get the old oxydol and have a front loader you will get the absolutelist best wash you can get. My Grandma Francis had a Westinghouse front loader in the late 40's and early 50's and she used Oxydol and everyone always commented on how white her sheets were. Plus she had naturally soft water from a spring in West Bingham, Pa. So she only had to use not more than a 1/4 cup per wash load.

I have used the new "Extreme Clean" Oxydol and it performs OK, but not like old Oxydol did on white clothing.

I contacted Redox Brands directly and questioned why they pulled the old formula that worked so well. They told me that they were no longer marketing to Baby Boomers and older and that this Oxydol was geared toward the younger adult ... one who was more "on the go".

Well, excuse me ... I LOVED my mother's/grandmother's Oxydol! I thought we (Baby Boomers) still had the market share of purchasing power; did I miss the change?

I dont know how much truth in this is..but my exsister-in-law came from Atlanta to visit family here in Arkansas. She always purchase an ungodly amount of Fab detergent...she claimed they could'nt buy it in Georgia because the state EPA said it had too much phospherous. I wonder if maybe that's why we cant get certain products. Kroger in Little Rock quite carrying Wisk. Ya'll take care/m:)

Fab...

...is another casualty I fear. It's been dropped from the Colgate Palmolive web site, and the only place I've seen it is in Big Lots! stores, along with its sister product, Ajax.

Seems like if it works, and doesn't break me out, that they take it off the market. I think I'm the kiss of death for good products.

My long gone favs:

Fab
Rinso (Lever Brothers--not the stuff in the dollar stores now)
White King Soap Flakes and White King D
Ivory Snow (the real soap...not the detergent)
Dash
Oxydol
Cold Power
Palmolive Powder Dishwasher Detergent
Lime Fresh Purex Dishwashing Liquid

These were all in my kitchen cabinet/laundry room at various times over the past 15-20 years and I loved them, and they're gone. Oh well. :-(

New Oxydol...

can't hold a candle to the old version. The old one had this crisp icy stone-cold freshness I just can't describe.

I also liked 1980-vintage fragrances on Tide, All and Fresh Start powder.

Colgate-Palmolive ditched their detergent business recently in the US. The Fab and Ajax brands were supposed to be picked up by another company that specializes in older brands (maybe Phoenix?)

They haven't re-released the bastardized versions of these brands yet in New York.

Old-school Dash was similar to All. They were marketed as "concentrated" and were low-sudsing.

I remember when the first P&G liquids like Tide were first introduced, the fragrances were much better than the ones we have now, and they were also labeled "low suds for easy rinsing".

Before it disappeared Surf tried to appeal to a younger audience as well-and IMHO did it in an insulting way-by writing the instructions in Moron-ese ("pre-treat your dirty STUFF first, and then wash all your STUFF together as usual...")

The quality of the product went down thereafter....

Anyone check out the new "Solo"? Why would anyone want to wash their clothes in Quaker State motor oil, lol?

Bbajaespuma , Which Ecolab

Detergent did you get your hot little hands on? *LOL*

Is it the blue solid stuff? Great cleaning isn't it, just the fragrance puts me off. Also it does not seem to disslove well in temps below 120F or so.

Some Ecolab detergents used nonphenol ethoxylate, which is a banned substance in Europe and phased out in the United States. Apparently the stuff is toxic to marine life and can cause cancer. Go figure.
