Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Ken,

I'll venture two possibilities:

First, if those clothes were just washed, the lid to the washer should be standing open to dry (I admit, that's a lame guess, but.....)

Second, if the dryer were actually plugged in, there would be a lamp on inside to illuminate the drum....

The "Flameless" led me to believe Firgidaire would be campaigning this ad (there would sometimes be a "Live Better Electrically" tag in their appliance ads) and they were chiefly electric appliance builders (with the occasional Gas dryer put in some homes--like General Electric, and, yes, I'd guessed the dryer--and WASHER--was GE, given the visual content) as I thought that was a Frigidaire-line it used in its advertisements...

And didn't Frigidaire even promote "ventless" drying with their dryers, as well?

Tom,

You almost have the colors in the correct order, however, the panel lasted 4 years.  The final year the black and white areas from 1962 were reversed, so the cycle selection panel was black (1962 was white).

Thank you, Lawrence. The first models did not have cycle selector buttons, right? The first one got rid of the push to start button and just had the air freshener, I think? You pulled out on the timer dial to start which made the whole control panel flex disturbingly. Then they went back to a push to start button. Sometime after that, maybe the last model you mentioned there was a bank of small white buttons, including "ECONOMY" to run the dryer on 120 volts on the auto dry cycle along with the push to start button, but I don't remember more, although I guess if there was an economy button there would have to be a Hi Speed button or something similar.
