The reliability of all those components, and all the easy access to 'em?

What there, made Maytag The Dependability People, with what's merely the same stuff, merely ordinary, in other machines?

Most people love them

Maytag is my very LEAST favorite washer, I never had any luck with them but BAD!

Well, my 34 year old Maytag 511 washer and 410 dryer have been perfect. One $28 motor pulley on the washer in all those years. Far as I am concerned I would call them very dependable. I will never get rid of them.

I, too, was never a Maytag fan until I got these BOL Harvest Gold beauties. Yeah, the washer isn’t that exciting to watch, but both machines have been extremely dependable. I think they are circa 1975ish...still find it odd that the dryer door opens from right to left when traditionally the washer is on the left. Also, it’s hard to get used to the spin direction of the washer going counter-clockwise compared to most other machines in a clockwise direction.

I have tried 5 of them

Not one would wash three loads in a row with out walking across the floor,all but 2 slung oil out all over the floor,,,I guess I just have bad luck with them.

Their simplicity is what makes them so good. My 1974 A407 needs a tub bearing, oil change, new motor rollers, and to be put on a platform so it drains better but it still does 4-5 loads per week. Best $50.00 I spent 3 years ago.

Mine are exactly like "washerlover's" machine, same color etc. No problems etc. I would love to have and ABC o matic though too.

They are my all time favorite washers. I get loads and loads done with no problems only thing is my washer will leak water if it over suds. They are memories of my childhood.My Maytags are pictured here

I'm just curious. Which models of Maytags have you owned? You said you have had five and all of them have walked across the floor.

All the Maytags I have owned have been center dials and all have had OOB switches. They have never walked anywhere.

At some point did Maytag eliminate the OOB switch from their machines? If so,
starting with which models or series?

None of my machines have ever slung oil all over the floor. How common is this and what causes this to happen?

I wouldn't trade my 806 pair for anything.

and several others, most were early 80s, Mother bought a new one in 84 that was THE WORST, It demanded CONSTANT attention , My mother got tired of it after a year and got aFilter Flo GE,

Wow, my two Maytags are very well-balanced and never walk anywhere! Albeit, never was a fan of Maytags but after now owning two washers, have to admit they are pretty reliable and dependable. And they clean things pretty well, but will always pale in comparison to Norge/Wards washing action!

Been said many times before, but Maytag made the most outstanding machines in operation and in dependability ever created. You can still find many of the old Maytag machines operating regularly as daily drivers for many people. For many years they made the competition pale in comparison. Anyone who has ever owned one from the time it was new, would never buy anything else again. As far as older worn models, you are going to have that in ANYTHING. Not just washers and dryers. It certainly is not a fair comparison of a 10 year or older machine to another one. You have no idea what it has been through in it's lifetime so far, but I would trust a Maytag way before any other machine.

We DID get one new

In 84, First day we had it it flooded the house, from then on it was one thing after another, You can keep them, I have better luck with Kenmores and GEs. BUT NOTHING is as good as a Norge!
