What year would this Hotpoint Dishwasher be from ?

It is a Impeller but I noticed it was available in Coppertone.

What was the first year Coppertone appliances were offered and who was the first manufacturer to kick off that color ?

I would think by that time everyone had switched to Spray Arm washing.

Well, we know it was most likely at the end of the 50's or beginning of the 60's. Spray arms did not come into play until the beginning of the 60's for most dishwashers.

I'd have to guess '56 or '57.   I've got a '56 and by then Hotpoint finally went to a 24-inch width and new colours were all the rage (mine's pink).  I'd also have to guess that Hotpoint may have continued to offer the impeller wash dishwasher as lower-end models after the 'double-deck' washing system was rolled out in 1958.

When vintage/1950s CR ratings were available here, I seem to recall Hotpoint dishwashers received the highest cleaning scores. Is that correct or is my memory playing tricks?

I've been watching The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet on YouTube and Hotpoint was a sponsor. Many ads featuring dishwashers, ranges, refrigerators and laundry pairs. A few of them feature Happy Hotpoint/Mary Tyler Moore.

I'm with Paul; I would guess 1956 or 1957.

 

The "coppertone" finish they refer to is not the shaded brown that GE would introduce in 1962, it is actually a copper finish.; the copper equivalent to brushed chrome.  1956 was definitely "The Year of Copper" in the kitchen.  It was featured prominently in advertising on everything from major appliances to the smallest kitchen accessory.

 

BTW, I <span style="text-decoration: underline;">love </span>the model's outfit.  I've always thought of this type of dress as a shirtwaist dress.  Whatever it's official name I think it is so attractive.  If I ever do drag, my costume will have to include a dress like this.

As far as consumer reports, I would have to consult my archives to see. Seems like Hotpoint did make the top list, but I think Kitchenaid was ahead of them, which would only make sense. They were easier to use than GE at the time, opening from the front and all.

I know what you mean. When I was a boy Id look at old pictures or watch old movies and marveled at how people used to dress. Women wearing gloves and a hat. Men wearing a suit to go to a movie. Women didn't go out wearing pajama pants with their muffin top hanging out like today!

You are right Eugene, in the fall of 1952 when CR first rated automatic dishwashers they listed Hotpoint first and KitchenAid 2nd. They stated "The Hotpoint and KitchenAid dishwashers were judged about equal in overall quality", so it might have been simply an alphabetical thing.

The Hotpoint was probably the best performing impeller dishwasher I have used, however I do think the 12 and 14 KitchenAid cast-iron wash arm machines clean the best overall.

Coppertone was first introduced by Frigidaire as Aztec Copper in 1959, I'm not sure if they were the first though. GE introduced the Woodtone Brown which was lighter and more pastel than coppertone in '55. There were two WCI-59 Custom Imperial Frigidaire washers in Aztec Copper on the Aberdeen Farm, I wish I would have taken a picture of them.
