Gordon, what can you tell me about this Kenmore set? I presume they date prior to 1981 when Sears modified the print font on the consoles. I've e-mailed the couple for more information about the condition and any maintenance issues. The price seems reasonable and I'd like something to play with since my parents still have not brought down my grandma's 24-inch Kenmore washer for me to restore.

Thanks for any info you have!

Rob -

That is an enticing, however unusual set. I would love to know how they came to be combined. Here's what I can tell you.

The 27751 model washer (in this case a 27754 because it's green) is a rare 1977 standard capacity Roto-Swirl equipped machine. Three levels (standard capacity machines from the mid-70s forward never had more than three levels with only one exception). The washer has an off-balance switch, and it came with an agitator mounted softener dispenser. GREAT washer. Black panel machines in standard capacity are rather rare. The machine has Normal, Perm Press, Knit/Delicate, and Pre-wash cycles, same as your grandparent's 24-inch.

The dryer is a 1978 upper level 80-series large capacity. The 68841/78841 was the fanciest dryer they had prior to the 90 series. It has an automatic cycle with Wrinkle Guard II (I believe) and the electronic moisture sensor. Seldom did anyone match a standard washer with a large dryer unless people were just matching colors to what Sears had in stock, but a large dryer like this really did a WONDERFUL and quick job on a standard load. They dried fast and very wrinkle free due to the space available in the drum.

Nice set - I think you'd enjoy them if they're still available.

Thanks, Gordon, for all the interesting facts! Good to know! I'd like to see these in person, especially knowing that the owners still have the manuals. That's a signal to me that they were reasonably cared for. Is it hard to find a replacement fabric softener dispenser for this agitator? I'm not sure, but it may still be with the machine and just not shown in the picture....

The seller e-mailed me this morning and said that these machines are in very good shape and work flawlessly. How cool, especially since they still have the manuals! I just may bite on this deal....

I talked to the seller a short while ago and set up a time tomorrow afternoon to take a look at these. He stated that they were replaced with front loaders. Stay tuned for more details tomorrow evening....
