I have a few washers and dryers which need new paint. Either they are badly rusted in areas or just scratched to really worn out. What is the best way to paint the bodies of these machines. I think the original paint was baked on much like auto paint. Has anyone found what does the best job? Any help would be wonderful.

Automotive finishes are the way to go. Although similar, they're probably a little better than the factory enamels anyway. There's also lot to choose from; I've used PPG type DAR (if I remember correctly) with good results. Hardeners can also be with these products which makes them extra-tough.

Automotive paint is the way to go. Sand, prime, paint and clearcoat. Did my Northstar this way, and it stayed nice for 20 yrs. 5 yrs ago, I moved and it needed another paint job because it sat in storage for a couple of years. (humidity/heat) I went the cheap way, 2 cans of spray paint from WallyWorld. Paint chipped in less than 2 months. My brother just got a new compressor *whoo hoo* and I can't wait to use it and refinish EVERYTHING on the next move. Just going to have to stay away from the Candy Apple Red. <weg>
Powder-coating is also very impressive IMHO. Had a antique iron bed done in that, and you could take a hammer to it, and it wouldn't chip off.

I usually use Rust O Leum,either in spray bombs,or lately,I've been using quarts and a paint sprayer.Works great!

Professional painting is best, IMHO.
I have taken machine cabinets to Fact-0-Bake, told them them color, etc. and bingo, perfect.
