Parnall Autodry TD 67

Hi all,

When we moved into our property 3 years ago the garage was full of junk. I found this tumble dryer in the loft and didn;t want to part with it. Its been sitting around for a few years now so thought its about time to find out what it is - so wondering if anyone could shed any light on it?

Theres very little info about this model online so was wondering how common they are these days, the history and if I should be selling it, keeping it or taking it to the recycling centre?

Its in reasonable condition for its age and considering its been in a garage loft for god knows how long. I plugged it in and it still functions properly, although I havent put any clothes in it and given it a proper test.

Its made by Creda

If you google Creda dryers you will see them they are exactly the same to look at including the inner workings, I believe that Creda let them put their name and badges on.

Parnall Radiation Co & Creda

Hi Chris it is indeed a pre Creda dryer, The Radiation Group made washing machines in the what is now the Creda tumble dryer factory in Yate , Bristol, so early models where branded Parnall / Creda / New World and others ..

The same factory was then taken over / merged with Hotpoint , then Indesit and now Whirlpool, its come a long way since the days of the Parnall Radiation Company.

Great little dryers , many about as Creda on ebay and such ..[this post was last edited: 7/14/2020-11:41]

Parnall

Parnalls started life in the early 19th century as shop fitters and
cabinet makers. Their long experience in the woodworking industry
led to the company’s recruitment to build aeroplanes for the Air
Ministry during World War I.

Parnalls continued their successful involvement in the aircraft
industry. During World War II, their gun turrets could be seen on
two-thirds of bombers. But this success came at a price - the
factory received two direct hits in the early part of 1941 and 53
workers lost their lives.

Domestic Appliances
Peacetime brought with it new industries and new demands.
Parnalls took advantage of these new markets by turning to
domestic goods. It produced an amazing array of products
including:- vacuum cleaners, alarm clocks, clothes presses, cookers,
washing machines and from the 1950s, tumble dryers. Parnalls
remained an important engineering and metalworking company!
The factory had contracts to make fuel pumps for jet engines and
parts for compressors, amongst a myriad of other products for
different companies.

In 1958, Parnall merged with the Radiation Group and the
factory became known as Jacksons. Like Parnalls, the Jackson
era came and went, and the factory acquired many new names such as Creda,
Hotpoint & Indesit before finally being currently owned by Whirlpool Corp.

And here is one of the original Parnall Tumble Dryers along with the Spinwasher made at the same factory as today in a district of Bristol UK called Yate.
