I take back everything nasty I ever said about overly complicated transmissions in one certain firm's washers.
This nightmare looks like it would be out of adjustment more often than in.
It is fascinating to see just how much effort went into exploring all possible avenues back then -
I love these patents and pictures of the day. Wish there were a place on the site where one could browse through them. Any chance, Robert?

Can you imagine how much this thing would have weighed? Two motors and that mechanism, what a beast. I'll bet it would have been cool to watch running, it probably sounded like a locomotive!
