I can see why consumer reports rated Norge so high in the early 50's. This machine was a good example. Thank goodness that Maytag came up with the new design right after this model!

What year was this Maytag?  I know early 50's.  My great-grandmother had an old gray dial Maytag washer when I was little but it was newer than this one.

I have this machine

In fact I have 2 of them and hope one day to make one good machine with parts from both. These are 1957 Model 140. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this. I also have the matching gas dryer. I think they make a beautiful set.

Personally I prefer the softer rounded lines of the older Maytags with the gray buttons.
