The one my parents had was incredibly loud percolating--it reverberated through the house. They had it on a timer so at 6 am it went off.

Ok, I am exaggerating to that opening...lol...But seriously, my preference is a Electric percolator. I like my Corn Flower, Corning Ware 10 cup more admittedly then my Poly Perk. But I like my smaller poly perk for when it is just me wanting a fresh cup of coffee.

I don't drink it...
but these are the reviews I've gathered...
Drip- weak and never hot enough even with the hotplate for the carafe
Perk- once you have the proportions and timing down, excellent.
Vac pot- superior taste and hot, especially when it's an automatic unit that turns off the churning action after a certain point (a la Sunbeam C-30 IIRC).
If smell is anything to go by, vac pot is the best and perc is maybe 2nd. Never really smell drip(i.e. Mr. Coffee) even though it's more open for "fumes" to be released. I really do love the smell. It's the taste I don't care for.
