On way home stopped in local shop that is our Miele/Persil source (among other things) to see what there was. Behind the counter was a huge display of Persil!

Gel (color, normal and sensitive)
Megaperls (ditto)

Thank goodness now don't have to order the stuff from Germany

Have complained in the past about Persil color gel's fragrance whiff, but have since learned one needs very small amounts. If dosage properly the stuff rinses rather clean and scent residue is not so bad. Also have stopped adding STPP with this product. Persil really doesn't require it anyway.

Well

We do have that unfinished business regarding Surf powder. A bottle or two of Persil should fit into that parcel. *LOL*

However have posted this before; one is able to order Persil direct from the "Persil Store" with free shipping.

Looking at the bottle of Persil gel purchased yesterday have a strong feeling it came from the same source, that is either Henkel or whomever is supplying "the Persil Store".

Labels are entirely in German without the English overlay found when Miele sold Persil.

Laundress, how were the prices? Our local Miele dealer sold Persil, including Megaperls, for years, but at insane prices, like $50 for a large box. Come to think of it, it may be time to check Amazon to see if Walmart's product line is now exerting downward pressure on the retailers who sell the full German Persil line, including Megaperls, via Amazon.com.

I can use the Walmart Persil powder for towels, linens, and light coloreds, but I prefer Color Megaperls for a mixed colored load (or all darks).

WOW

I think the Walmart line IS exerting downward pressure on other Persil retailers:

3.2 kg for the low $30s. I think it was closer to $50 before Walmart got into the act, and these prices are for Amazon Prime (free two day shipping). All of the products appear to be sold by Amazon Partners rather than by Amazon itself, but many include the Amazon Prime shipping benefit. The $50 offers of yesteryear often had additional shipping charges tacked on.

Gracious Home used to have Persil gel at $19.99 per bottle, but now it is $21.99. Not to bad one supposes but more than from the Persil Store ($18.99). The Persil Store (again) offers free shipping. Didn't look at the others as have a huge stash of Megaperls and powders from Persil along with Vernel FS.

Various suppliers have Persil in different forms including gel on Amazon.com.

Don't necessarily think it is Walmart exerting downward pressure on Persil prices, but that Miele North America's mark-up percentage is gone. But things did and probably do vary.

Back in the day it was cheaper to get Persil shipped to me from Miele in NJ instead of shopping locally. Then it became almost a wash, especially after several UPS rate increases.

I ordered my current bottle of Persil color gel from the Persilstore.  The only thing that bothers me about this store is that it says free shipping on the product page, but when I get to the checkout page it tells me I get free shipping only if my order is over $100, and that is the only time i have ever gotten free shipping from them.   I don't like this.

I used to bring home Persil from Germany, but the Amazon prices I found are perhaps 30% more than in a German supermarket. At that point, why bother to bring it home? When it was $50-60, that was a different matter. But for $33, shipping included, I can handle that. Since I use only 15-30 ml (1/2-1 coffee measure), a package lasts me a long, long time.

PersilStore

Thank you for that bit of information.

Had always seen the "free shipping" on each page and took them at their word. Never actually ordered thus got that far to find out I nearly was had. Someone really ought to report them for this, I mean it must be illegal or something.

Here is another source to get your German detergent and other items from "the Old Country"

I am an Amazon Prime subscriber---and with all the stuff I buy on Amazon, to avoid running all over town looking for the items, it is far more cost-effective than my Costco membership. If the item is marked by a checkmark Amazon Prime logo, two-day shipping to the 48 states is included in the price. Also free to AK and HI, but not two days (still, a big plus for residents of those two states).

Since I have very few white clothing items, only a few white dress shirts, most of my work clothing is office casual in light to dark colors, and almost all of it is wrinkle-free finish from LL Bean. I hate using liquids and prefer powders, hence Megaperls are my favorite Persil formulation. I could probably use Universal on most of my things, except I have a lot of navy blue and loden green chino trousers that likely would fade if washed repeatedly (or in too-hot water) with Universal. I've been using Color Megaperls for a decade without any problems, but the likelihood of finding them on Walwart shelves is remote, since most Americans don't want to buy two different types of detergent. I have plenty of Color Megaperls stockpiled from a 2012 Berlin visit. When those run out, I'd probably buy from Amazon, $33 postage paid for 3+ kgs of Color Megaperls is reasonable.
