Philips AWB098

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

mine is an AWB904

Photo to follow in next few days. It won't be much of a photo as there is so much heavy stuff in the way, but you'll see the fascia at least.

Twin heating elements - I also have a Philips skinny top loading tumble washer, slightly newer. It uses the DC permag motor. I love it, though my machine doesn't work any more - electronic controller gone.

It uses the heating element in series with the wash motor to control the motor speed during wash. (all switched by the electronic motor controller module.)

I wonder if the washer in the photo above uses the elements in the motor control circuit too? It could use one or two elements in series with the motor to give a variation in speeds. Or use one in series with the motor for speed control, and the other for water heating. Note the element above the motor has 800w stamped in it, so it would need two of those to do anything useful.

My old Asko has two elements, If I recall right they are 1200w and 1800w, the 1800w is used on 10 amp circuits and the extra 1200w element is used in 15 amp versions. (at 240 volts).

Yay, so glad you have got it, looks amazing. Can't wait to see it in operation. Do you have the matching dryer or do we need to keep our eyes peeled for one? Does Rob's Grandfarthers dryer match.

Hi Chris.

Yep - model AWB904 was an Italian made, slow spin machine and it would be great to know what it looked like.

Did a quick spreadsheet of all the Philips UK sold models (that I have been able to find) from about 1978, through to the very start of the right hand drive Series 90 machines.
As you can see, there is a horrific number of variations, with the ones showing in bold me having a photograph of. Its probably about 50/50, with the vast majority of mystery machines being exclusives - Mike - why didnt you keep your sales literature!!!!!! Be saving me old headache if you did! :-)

Be nice to turn AWB904 into bold...

Hi Richard.

I want to procure a new belt before trying it out (this one is going to turn into another Liberator situation, cant you tell!).
The exisiting belt is, as far as I am concerned, badly freying and cracked, so it puts me off letting it do some work a bit.

Rob's grandads dryer is a match to the AWB082 and is a black faciad dryer, so yep I am looking for a matching dryer.

A D165 would be nice...

Whatever was mixed in with the layer of grime on the facia, has reacted with it over time and has left black splodges that I cant get off.

Doesnt bother me too much as they tend to be in areas of useage and I like the machine so much, that I can afford it the odd mark here and there...

Am pleased with the way it cleaned up. Find a belt and then plug in - lets hope it works!

Now to find that D185.

Paul

awb904

Here are some photos of my awb904

I think (not certain) this was the only true Philips front loader sold here.(they also had an Australian made version of the Hoover Zodiac with Philips badges.)

Other Philips washers were rebadged Japanese top loaders and twin tubs. [there was a Philips badged version of the Hoover 720 too - a Dutch badge(Philips) on an Australian made machine (Hoover) of an American design (Blackstone.]

This poor old machine is languishing at the back of my shed, has been for years - hence the layer of dust...

Chris.
