Here's a photo of our kitchen in North Torrance CA in 1971 (that's my brother in the picture, I would have been 11 yrs old). I can remember the dryer (Kenmore) and the stove (O'keiff and Merrett Contempo III), but I cannot remember the maker/model of the refrigerator.

I'm hoping somebody here can.

Oh My Gosh! Oh My Gosh! is that the lower bowl of a stainless steel NICRO vacuum coffee brewer on the range? Did your parents make vacuum coffee? I'm guessing they did not use it to boil water since there is a teakettle present.

The door handles make me think of an Amana, but I'm not sure about what I'm seeing with the angle and the glare, etc. If the doors have sculpted edges, I would say Frigidaire and the rt hand side does look like it has a sculpted edge, although I am not sure if that is the correct term for the door where the sides are higher than the central panel.

Did anyone suffer depression with all of that brown in the kitchen?

Those 36" wide ranges with an upper oven were imposing appliances.

Good Eyes Tom,

Yes that's the lower half of a Nicro vacuum coffee brewer, the upper chamber is in the sink at the moment. Funny, I asked my Mom about this coffee maker just the other day. Obviously at 11 I was too young to be drinking it, but the unit hung around the house until the 1990's when it was tossed. (UGH).

Mom said it made the best coffee, far superior to percolators that were common at the time. She also prefered it since it couldn't be broken like glass units.

For various reasons (Dad), she had to give in to the Mr. Coffee drip system, which she never really liked as well. She hung on to the old Nicro for years, but discovered that the rubber collar on the vacuum tower was breaking down, so that was the end of that.

hey I left that area in 1971 or so. We lived in Wilmington on Banning blvd. We had a stove very much like yours only a 36 inch sears Kenmore. Copperone too. The burners were on a track that slid in and out and under a stainless steel cover for when not in use. Very cool. Do you still live in LA?
oh Ps out fridge was a bottom freezer coppertone. Its was big and very square. I still think the tallest fridge I have ever seen.

I see a fork design that appears at the center of the handle, which looks like a moderately bent bow shape, overall. The fork is where you would have the highest point of the bow, and top and bottom curves inward, terminating in a slight curve outwards at the very tips(top and bottom of handle).

That's what I see, for what it's worth. Not sure if that's an Amana, afterall. ?

It could possibly be an early 60's GE.  My grandma had one that looked like the one pictured.  It was a non frost-free model.
