Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Love them keys

I bought this same washer from a great Thrift store in Middletown, CT. It was my daily driver for two years until it broke. Wonderful machine with a very effective agitator. What I love about the LK's like this one is that they're some of the only vintage machines that offer things like Pre-washes and Extra rinses along with timed dispensers that make it possible to load the machine and forget about it until drying time.

Cons: Anemic extraction, clunky/noisy transmission, interminable pauses between washes, drains and spins. All not big deals since I didn't have to return to the basement to add more detergent, FS, etc.

I'd like to find another one of these later models closer to home:

Beautiful 1966 Lady Kenmores

These were the best performing machines of their time when you consider all aspects of washing performance, cleaning disposal of lint and sand, ability to double wash, and double rinse.

Hi Ken, I don’t know what you’re talking about pausing because these did not pause at all unlike, Filter Flow machines and Maytag sit pause for 30 seconds or more a few times throughout the cycles, also, the transmission shouldn’t make a sound. There shouldn’t be any clunky whatsoever I think your machine was dying sooner than it did.

If a Whirlpool or Kenmore transmission is clunking in operation, it’s either the set screw for the pulley has worked loose or the spring that pushes down the shifter fork is either worn or broken casing it to pop in and out which is obvious since it’ll try to agitate but won’t quite engage and that’s really the Achilles heel of a belt drive washer transmission.
