HI everyone, If any of you that have pianos, and would like to know how old they are; I have a book that has the names of different brands and will tell how old they are. All you have to do is look in the inside on the plate, around the plate or elsewhere for the serial number. I have a 1980 Mason and Hamlin grand and a 1915 Waltham upright player. If you find the serial number, just let me know and I will look it up for you. Have fun, Gary

Kawai 750

Serial Number....

206840

I think it is a 1966?

Awesome Piano.

Let's see what you pull up.

Thanks Gary!

I have a few more in the garage that are on their sides for now, and wrapped in huge piano blankets. When I get to them I will give you a shout and see if you can find them. I have piano books with serial numbers and dates. For the life of me I can't find them!!! Too Much Crap around here!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Brent

Well I already know mine. :)

1905 Story and Clark art case upright. Don't have the serial number on the top of my head.

Wurlitzer and Wing and Sons

HI Suds, You piano was made sometime in 1940. The 1940 serial numbers start at:
195000 and the 1941 serial numbers start at: 21000 Is your piano the one that was called the "butterfly?" The lid is hinged in the middle and can be opened on one or both sides.

Hi Phil, I only find serial numbers that go as high as 54000 and that was for 1928 when the last ones were made. Tell me more, is it a newish piano? The name may have been bought by another firm. The serial number is usually on the plate or around there. Thanks, let me know what you find. Gary

The 1905 story and clark is what they called a cabinet grand. Its 58" tall, and is made of solid mahogany wood. The sides each have 2 pillars going from the top to bottom of the piano. On the front ends a single pillar goes down the whole piano (breaking for the music and keydesk area)

It has very intricate details and carvings all throughout. The inside pinblock is ornate carved birds eye maple with inlaked mahogany accents. The cast iron plate is painted green with gold pinstriping with flower designs. the soft pedal bar that moves the hammers closer has a gold leaf decal of "story and clark" in it.

The middle pedal activates a bar with hardened cloth tabs on it give the piano an almost harpischord like tone.

The piano is in original state as of right now. Right down to the strings. I plan to have it restored one day. But thats when Ive got $20,000 to drop for that.

HI Washernoob

Hi, That piano sounds wonderful. I have played a piano with those tabs that you are talking about. Do they have a metal button or disk on each tab?
A. B. Chase did the same thing with their birdseye maple. Very pretty indeed.
I had my Mason and Hamlin rebuilt for $8500.00 a couple of years ago. Everything new but I didnt have it refinished, it didn't really have to be. Sounds like fun. Gary

The S&Cs harpsichord bar is just hardened cloth. Must have been dipped in some solution that made it hard.

Gary, the only number I sound is the one stamped on the sounding board. The piano have been refinished when I was a kid and none of the original lettering remains. It has 4 pedals and look a bit like a model 22 from the Wing and Son documentation.

This picture shows the only number I found, it's not visible on this picture but it's stamped in the rectangle at the right.
