Picked up a new washer tonight

I got this fairly decent washer tonight from our church, the rectory is being torn down and the contents needed liquidated, for a donation of under $20 I couldn't leave it, besides with a pending first home purchase it will make a good daily driver.

This whirlpool is model number: LHA5580WL serial# CO1716123

Ccan anyone date this machine, I'm assuming early 80s

LHA = 1980-81 model year.
Serial C017 = 17th week of 1980.

It's a super-capacity with winged Double-Duty Surgilator, yes?

Considering that it's a belt drive motor and it has the flow thru lint filter that you clean manually and it has a "super surgilator" of that time frame I would say that the machine is probably from around 72-75 give or take a year. In the 80's is when they went to the DD machines.

And yes this does have the winged surgilator.

I ran a quick load yesterday and it seems to have a nice wash action. Kinda dissapointed that it only has cold rinse and no warm rinse option

How do these perform?

Actually it would be early to mid 80's. My Mom has what would be the matching dryer to that washer. It has the same exact panel style and it was about 83 or 85 when she got it. They still made belt drives well into the 80's.

Almost the twin to the machine my mom got in 1983. It was a durable workhorse that needed NOTHING in all the years we used it.

these perform nicely....but like any belt drive....the spin is only around 550RPM....but that agitator will kick ass.....just give it a good going over, looking for cracked hoses, and rusted clamps....and maybe a new belt would be wise, other than that, you should be good to go...

When I picked this up it had all of its paper work with it, and it also had paper work for the matching electric dryer, but oddly the dryer was MIA and it was paired up with a considerably older GE dryer.

Nice washer. If I were to guess the year I would say this was a 1981 model. I am fairly certain the 1982 models had darker consoles, and by 1983 the cabinet resembled that of a Kenmore. While there is no camera shot of the washer's front, I am betting this one has the traditional Whirlpool indentations. Another detail that says this could not be earlier than 81 is that the tub perforations appear to begin lower down than earlier models. This pattern began on large capacity models that year.
