Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Congrats Jon, that is awesome!

How did you come across this washer? An ad? You saw it as you drove by somewhere? Do tell!

I would LOVE to find some deals like that but I don't even know where to start looking (and don't have the time to look at Craig's list all the time).

I suddenly (and I mean all in one week!) have a "collection" of 4 washers (soon to be five next week!) and 2 dryers. Once I finish the plumbing and get everything connected I will post some pix!

Noisy...

There's no mistaking when a 1-18's around. There are some ways to quiet them down. Any of you guys who are interested in learning how I did it just shoot me an email.

Don't mind the normal sounds at all...

That's what the basement's for. The GE isn't all that quiet either at least when the brake engages. Kinda nice being upstairs and hearing the sounds nonetheless. I'll look around a bit and see if I can find a filter. Shouldn't be too hard to do. Just got to get this sucker in the basement.

One thing you need to check is the length of the spin roller screw. Its the one on the back side that is hell to get to.
Pull the front cover off and look. If the screw sticks out about a quarter of an inch you have the revised one. Gm had problems with the screw breaking, and it was a bear to repair.

RevvinKevin,

Just now noticed your question...

I scan craigslist now and then to see what's out there in my area. The ad for this machine did not have a descriptive title so I nearly passed it up. Then curiosity got the best of me and I looked. There was the 1-18 washer of course and also a TOL 1-18 dryer w/ lighted panel. The dryer was already sold. A lady had already said she'd take the washer but apparently wasn't good at returning calls. He got my call and happened to be dropping the dryer off in my neighborhood. He didn't want to go home with the washer so he dropped it off at the house while I was at work and told me to just mail a check. Easy as that!

Best advise? Check craigslist often!

Update...

Thanks to Patrick...came over tonight and helped us get this beast downstairs. Although very clean on the outside, it is filthy inside. There must have been quite a mouse problem at the last place. YUCK!!! It'll clean up just fine though.

After some scrubbing, got it back together and hooked it up. I just ran a large load of towels through a full cycle and it worked just fine. Patrick, the lint filter you so kindly gave me works great too! Plenty of lint off the towels.

Only issues really are we did find a large chunk broken off part of the agitator after all and the agitator cap was broken a little bit where it locks on. I'm sure those parts will show up in due time. Otherwise works great and was definitely a steal for $25!

Thanks so much again Patrick! You're a great friend and so glad you got to come by tonight and help out.

Videos coming soon! CHUG CHUG CHUG...

Jon, carefully use a metal file (at an angle) to smooth out that chunk that is missing. If it is like mine you will only end up with a small and nearly undetectible place on the agitator----and it won't snag those delicates!

I hate to think of how many perfectly good 1-18's met the krusher just because someone was careless with that stupid filter and it fell off and put a chip in the agitator.

Here's a video...

Got this done today. Bobload of jeans. Notice the spray rinse continues until the tub is filled for the deep rinse. There is also a short final spray rinse.

The agitator cap kept popping off during the wash so that's why it's asbsent. Probably won't be using that anymore until I find a better one.

Pretty cool machine and well worth the $25!

Enjoy the video!

Tide of course....

I'm learning that I have to use at least half as much in that machine. I may have to start keeping some HE stuff around for the 1-18. I've noticed though that the Downy softener kind of causes some suds too. Some of that was the Downy in there. The machine rinses and rinses like crazy!

Glad you liked it Bob! I'm pretty happy with the machine too.

Nice Video...

and thanks for taking it to share with everyone here. One thing I noticed is that you didn't have great turnover and this happens when the machine is not properly loaded. With any Frigidaire items should be loaded in more of a "balled up" fashion rather than wrapped around the agitator. This will reduce tangling and provide better turnover and more thorough cleaning. It's pretty typical for a nice layer of suds to form at the top due to the pumping action of the Jet Cone. I've noticed with mine that those suds tend to suspend dirt in them which is a good thing. Good luck with your 1-18, they're a great washer.

Aww...

Warm fuzzies! Thanks Patrick!!!

Joelippard...I think you're right and I thought about that after a load or two. I have to keep in mind that this machine washes completely different. I did do a pretty large load of towels today and loaded it the way you described and it was noticeably better. Thanks for reminding me hehe. I'm not a Frigidaire guy you know!
