Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I always loved that knob on your Kenmore washer - my favorite when I was a kid staring at the catalogs and fiddling with the machines until chased away at Sears. I was heartbroken it was dropped on the black-faced machines in 76.

Very nice collection of interesting machines. Don S. and I saw that same gold Kenmore washer at a thrift store here in Omaha a number of years ago. It was minty-fresh and we debated for a while but left it behind. Probably should have grabbed it, but you can't save them all.

Greg -

It's interesting what you say about that knob. I almost wrote something similar above, in that when these models were popular that used this knob (1970 - 1974/5), I always thought they were fantastic. REALLY made me want a new machine. This was about the time when a small catalog store opened near our house and I could look at washers while Mom stood in line to get her order.

There was a lot of variation to this knob. It was used in all black/gray, all white, white skirt/chrome knob, black skirt/chrome knob, and all chrome. I think I like the all chrome ones best.

Each time I see one of these now, for a few moments I can feel the energy and excitement again of being 10 years old and fascinated by everything washing-machine.

Tell you what Gordon,

Take a vacation to my basement and you can have all the fun you want with the '72. Just bring your centerpost bearing removal and installation tools for the other 3 or 4 belt drives in my basement and periodically shout some instructions in my general direction.

When can we expect you?
Dave
