Hi All

Thanks for such a great response!

Im still kinda amazed that laundry tablets havn't been re introduced now that Americans are prefering front loaders (Not all Americans...before I get bombarded with "we love a top loader" comments :) )

Thanks again for your responses guys.

philygrl,The commercial you're thinking about was for Action chlorine bleach packets. They were a powder inside of a jell packet sourt of like the Cascade and Electrosol gel tabs but a powder. The manufacturers of Lestoil also had an oxygen bleach in a gel sack called Lestare. It was real popular in the 60's and dissapeared around 1968.At one point, you could use Vim or Salvo with Lestare or Action bleach! No mess like you can have with powders or liquids of today.Anybody remember the Fab sacks that had built in fabric softner with detergent???They smelled like Fresh Start!

I concur on the Action ads with the thick, strong arm coming out of the machine.

A friend's family used Salvo briefly. They had 10 kids so it was always chaos and my friend advised that they stopped using Salvo because the tablets would sometimes make holes in the clothes. I presume this is because they were putting the tablets in before the washer had filled. Mom was not a housekeeper by any stretch of the imagination so I suspect the holes in clothing were the results of kids doing the laundry as part of their chores, and not following the directions.
