I never noticed that you could order acrylic white finish on a Lady K or a porcelain white finish for 20 dollars more! You learn something every day!

Porcelain finish option

When my mother was shopping for her first Automatic clothes washer/dryer set back in 1971, one of her requirements a porcelain finish cabinet. Manufacturers were phasing out porcelain during the 1970s to compete on price

I did inflation calculator for this item in 1971 and what it would cost today.  $1641 and change.  Our Kenmore 800 list price would be $1465.  We got it on sale for $229, equivalent of $1347.  So still for a TOL washer, equivalent to what is paid today.

The dollar is worth less and less all the time. Salaries and minimum wage grows but it doesn't keep up with inflation.

The acrylic is probably fine on the cabinet but you can't beat porcelain for the top and lid.

I wonder why whirlpool didn't switch to stainless steel inner baskets? Seems they would be less expensive to manufacture.
