Mansfield

Way back in 1975,I was still a runaway but was staying with a religious group (mostly hippies)and was asked to come along to a farm in mansfield Ohio. we drove there in a 1969 land Rover and I met a girl named Gail who had lots of laundry to do. She had me come along and we went to the main street in downtown Mansfield where , right in front of the Westinghouse factory lot, was a HUGE Westinghouse/Aldwash laundromat. they had all different types of Laundromat washers with either the Westinghouse logo or the "Ald" logo on them. The assistant there said that their machines were test models and used to see how well they performed I was watching one of the older "Laundromat blue"washers and fell asleep. When I woke up and got up off my lazy but to take the wash into the dryer, I fell on my but because Gail thought it would be funny to tie my shoe laces together. We had lots of fun and I never got to see her again. I always wonder what happens to folks I lose contact with. I just heard that my "girl next door" friend and schoolmate,Cindy who I grew up with and played hours with dressing up Barbie and Ken and GI Joe died of cancer. We'd lost contact over the decades only seeing one another at funerals, christinings and weddings.I really try to keep in touch with everyone I know/knew.

The University of Rochester had these machines in all their dorms. The distributor at the time had shown the director the water saving benefits of the washers -- without disclosing that the savings were for the frontloaders. After pointing this out to the director (also pointing out their terrible reliability, especially with the dryers), they were all replaced with Maytags.

In my dorm, there was a rooftop laundry with 20 washers and 20 dryers, but in the basement there was a small laundry with 5 each washers and dryers that were older Westies. These machines agitated much more aggressively than the newer machines upstairs and spun out much faster. Maybe it was a special pulley...
