Something to snack on while doing laundry: Next time I head to the store, I will also look for those flavored varieties, as they sound yummy! Granted these are not the healthiest snacks in the world to munch on, but even the healthy eaters among us cannot resist the taste of this American classic. Meantime, enjoy the www.pik-nik.com Web site.--The Shoestring Potato Eating Laundry Shark

...and Snowy, and Vivid and Easy-On and Yes...

French's Foods, as you already learned when you linked up with them, is a unit of Reckitt Benckiser, makers of the above mentioned laundry products...of course, Profit and Gain makes Pringles...

Ore-Ida Crinkle-Cut French Fries

Just discovered these... now that they've taken the trans fats out, I can eat them. Heretofore I've been using a deep fat fryer for french fries, but it's time consuming (can take 20 minutes for a 120 volt fryer to get up to temp), messy and energy intensive. So for the frozen crinkle cut fries I just pop them in a 450F oven for 15 minutes, and they come out very nicely. And now that it's winter, the extra heat in the house is not unwelcome.

As far a snack foods go, lately I've been munching on Cheddar flavored Sun Chips. Less fat than normal chips, more fiber, and not bad tasting either (the regular Sun Chips still taste like hay to me).

PS-Does Gray Poupon mustard come in a squeeze bottle?

Ovaltine is available!

Hey Laundryshark,

Yes, Ovaltine is alive and well at all our local grocery stores. In fact we have a couple of containers of it in the cupboard as I type this! A classic!

Cracker & Cookie Boxes

hey Mike! Cool Beans! Maybe I'll luck out and find Ovaltine in Cedar Rapids. Meantime, here is a link for some pictures of classic snack cracker, chip, and cookie packaging. Several of these products are still around in some form or variant today. Wished I could still chomp on some of those classics though, such as Chipsters, Corn Diggers, and Pizza Spins. Although Pizza Spins is not shown here, I still vaguely remember that childhood snack.--Laundry Shark

More Snack Memories.....

Hi Laundryshark!

That link to those cracker/snacks just made me think of "Whistles" by General Mills! Do you remember that one? Cheddar crunchy (sort of like Chee-tos) but better - more cheddar! I saw the Daisys as well - these two are no longer made but I know Bugles are still around. I also remember Hydrox cookies and prefer them over Oreos hands down! I believe they were the original chocolate creme sandwich cookie made by Sunshine, and are sadly no longer available - at least around here! There was a website dedicated to Hydrox and it stated that Keebler now has the recipe. Remember Space Food Sticks? They went up along with Tang for the space flights back in the late 60's - early 70's. How about a vintage Shake-A-Puddin' snack that came with it's own cup, and you added water to a fill line, then added the powder mixture. You shook it up for a minute or so, then let it set for a few minutes until it set. How 'bout 1-2-3 Jello? It had a neat effect in dividing up into three sections - a frothy top followed by a pudding like middle, then the regular Jello on the bottom. You just sparked all these memories of mine from being a kid back in the 60's! Good Times! - Thanks! - Mike

Hometown Favorites: Boy They Were Good But...

Most of which you mentioned are not part of my childhood as I was born in 1965 and many of these things were well out of my memory after they discontinued. And to further bring back your childhood snacking good times, this Web site displays a huge list of classic products and varieties, several of which are still around today. Wished I could still munch on Doritos Sour Cream & Onion flavor! Man were those ever so delicious! Another classic was O'Gradys Au Gratin, those thick and flavorable ruffled potato chips from Frito Lay. Anyway, here is that other link.--Laundry Shark

Thanks for the link!

Hey Laundryshark!

Thanks for the link - I did find the 1-2-3 Jello, Hydrox, Whistles, and Shake-A-Puddin' listed but no longer available to purchase. For the record I came into the world in 1959 so I have a lot of 60's memories of these products.

Planters Cheese Snacks

Remember those Planters cheese balls in the canister? Those were discontinued. Hopefully, I might be able to find a similar snack from another brand, as those cheese snacks were good. Utz Snacks might have them.--Laundry Shark
