On ebay: "This is the 1955 General Electric Wonder Kitchen. I have the 30" Electric 4 burner Stove, the 24 " Dishwasher, which is BRAND NEW, never used with the original packaging and papers. The also includes Wall Refrigerator Freezer. There are also 2) 18" wide 4 drawer metal cabinets.

I have cans of the original GE pink spray paint that was orinally issued with the Woner Kitchen in case of a nick or scratch. I had the original Pink garbage disposal (unused) as well but I am not sure if I still have it. The appliances are packed in my garage and I would need to move everything out to find it. If it is there it is a bonus.

I originally purchased this from an appliance dealer that had a store from the 50's through the 70's. My plan was to use it as my kitchen in my MCM 1955 house. Well, I am a single woman and the builders thought and still think, I am sure, that I am crazy. So I settled for using some of the kitchen cabinets and the pink enamal kitchen sink in my laundery room and painting my washer and dryer to match. I LOVE it.

Now I have these precious pieces left and they need to find a loving home. The are amazing.

Please ask me questions you might have or maybe you already know that this is exactly what you have been looking for.

Enjoy!"

The three short years of the SU-70

This model is an SU-70S; it was the first "Custom 4-Cycle" that GE rolled out in 1959. Compared to the ones made for 1960 and 1960 it's a little different. In 1960 they introduced the "Power Shower" and gave it a white grille instead of the brown one you see in 1959 and 1961. In 1961 GE discontinued their "home made" plastisol coated wire silverware basket with the really useful slots for large utensils and introduced the all-plastic version that would remain to this day on almost every dishwasher still sold. The 1961 model also hid its cycle dial with a button that activated a plate warming cycle. For some strange reason by the end of 1961 they brought back the cycle dial, eliminated the plate warmer and changed the cycle buttons around. That was the model my Father bought.

My Mom had the Princess with the Power Shower, Brown Grill and the Single Cycle.

We had to close the Kitchen Doors when it was "Roaring". But I do remember it did a great job cleaning And talk about hot !!! You couldn't hardly touch the dishes when the cycle was complete. I can still see the Steam pulsing out of that grill with the scent of Cascade from back then.

That is exactly the interior that our portable had.

I am reading a biography of "Patrick Dennis," the pen name of Edward Everett Tanner III, who gave us Auntie Mame and other literary works. The book is titled Uncle Mame and is written by Eric Myers. On page 180, there is a condensed version of a 7 page, single spaced typewritten memo that Tanner left for two women who were staying at his family's townhouse in the summer of 1962. About the dishwasher he wrote this:

"DISHWASHER--Is in the kitchen on the second floor. It is a model called the FU-70. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole."

When I saw this, I figured it was the GE SU-70 with the initial letter changed to give the chance to slip in a thinly disguised epithet.
