fot that price

they better wash my clothes, dry them, do the dishes, clean the cat box, vacuum, give me a full body massage and satisfy all my sexual desires!

ridiculous! at least in my book!

Is this the pink set that constantly pops up on eBay and the seller keeps putting it on at a ridiculous price??

Also we do not know if it truly works?

I do love this style of Maytag. Such a shame American machines were not imported for the years you guys had the great proper Maytags.

Yes

This is the same set that keeps relisting on ebay and has been for approximately 2 to 3 years now. The seller refuses to take less than $2000.00 and the washer probably needs a complete rebuild. If you search in the archives you'll find many spirited discussions about these machines.

I sent the seller a message before posting this thread saying bacically, you must NOT want to sell them, because NO ONE is going to pay that much for them! As beautiful as they are, they are just NOT worth $2000... ESPECIALLY since they are not %100 fuctional.

We'll see if they bother to reply...........

Point out the scratched door, too... lol
It's funny but when people get the slightest notion there is a market for something, they get unrealistic with the pricing!
If it was around $500, I would very likely consider the set just because anything of this era in pink is impossible to find here in Canada...

I think this is a case of a wife wanting the machines gone and the husband doesn't want to let them go. He keeps relisting them and then he can tell his wife, "You see nobody wants them so we might as well keep them, they are collector items you know."

I would pay $200 for them if they were local... hell, I'd probably pay $400 if they were local and in great mechanical condition!

Paul, the scratch on the dryer door is a common problem on Maytags with that handle, the DE701 I have had the exact same scratch! Mine are white and are probably in the same or better condition. My washer works but needs the tub seals replaced. Plus I only paid $100 for both!

Money shot. I haven't even wiped them out yet, I'll give them a going over and have a real unveiling once that's done.

The story is that they were bought and used for a year, then stored when the owner's husband died and she moved to an apartment without hookups. She was a hoarder of newspapers and magazines so they have been "buried" in a sense for many years. It's hard to see in the flash pics but the basket and agitator still have their shine.

OOOH!

That washer looks like the one that was off in the laundry area of the Clampett's Beverley Hills Mansion in the first B&W episodes of "The Beverley Hillbillies"!

Kevin,
about the scratch - I found a very similar pink dryer to the DE701 in the FL auction and it was fine... Maybe shoulda bargained with the seller on that one (she wanted $350 for it)...

It's stupifying to see that some people just plain don't "get it" when it comes to used/vintage/antique/collectable major appliances.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!

OMG Gansky, those are A M A Z I N G ! ! !

Yes the tub and agitator DO look like new! I am jealous!

I actually contacted the seller as I was seriously thinking about buying them, but they were gone by then! They are in GREAT hands though! Congrats!

I look forward to the "official" reveal thread and photos!

Kevin

It's almost worth setting up a few shill eBay accounts and having some fun with this seller.

Can you hear it now, "Honey, they sold! For $5,000!!!!"

LOL Note I said almost.

Oh Greg those are beautiful machines, congratulations!

I hate when people on Ebay attempt to take advantage of people like that. Have there been sets that have sold for more? Yes, but in new or at least better condition than these apparently are, or a rarer survivor.

Beautiful machines Greg. Yellow was always a favorite of mine. I had a friend growing up who had a set like those in the laundry area in the garage. Fun to watch until his mom caught us and sent us on our way. The kitchen was all GE in yellow. Looked pretty sharp. Those are well taken care of. Enjoy them and we hope to see some video soon. I have this set of pink 'Tags with all push-button controls now. I 'made' the washer from a 160 washer panel that I put onto a 700 cabinet. I found the 160 washer at an estate sale, as some who were here in 2005 for our convention, one day before the convention started. The washer was white and in beautiful condition. A while later, I found the pink 700 washer and the 900 dryer shown in pink so I switched the washer panel. I've never liked this very much - the authenticity just was non-existent since the 160 cabinet has a lip on the top of the front panel and the off-balance & lid switch are very different from the 160 to the 700 series. I gave the original white cabinet to Ben which he later returned and I've been intending to rearrange the laundry rooms this summer and return the all-button panel back to it's original cabinet. Blah, blah, blah.... then this yellow set shows up now so it throws two more machines in to the mix and I'm going to have to not only do some rearranging, but find new homes for a couple of 'Tags in the process. (You may also remember that 700 washer in white I brought home this summer from a house here in Omaha - very nice machine, churning away in the garage right now but we're awash in Maytags now so it may not make the cut!) Speaking of yellow, I know of a 142 washer and matching dryer here in Omaha - also in yellow - that will be needing a new home as well so the yellow may turn out to be not quite as rare as we think!

Long story - short (too late!) thanks for all the great comments, I hadn't intended to hijack the thread for these but I will post some more pics this weekend of the yellow set.

Update.....

As I mentioned I sent a message to the seller in FL that wants $2K for the set... and I received the following reply:

"Thanks for your opinion. I paid $2000 including shipping and thats what would make me part with them because I LIKE them."
